So I was recently inspired to write a novel based off a fanfiction of my favorite anime character, but I've been in a writing funk the past few years. Before, my ideas and plot just came in naturally and as I wrote but I had a bump in the road and I've lost my mojo. Now, nothing comes to me. I've been playing with ChatGPT about it and they've give me some ideas but still nothing is coming to me about a plot I really think is good. And I didn't want to take too much of what the AI was giving me either, but I took bits and pieces of their info along with what I was brainstorming and I asked them just to make sure I was ok as far as plagiarism goes and not copying the manga's story. When they said some was a bit similar I then reworked my plot line and all of a sudden, GPT said it was great and gave me a huge plot outline! And omg, it's great. Some of the ideas I REALLY like, but now I feel I can't use them because I didn't think of them. Argh, this sucks. Maybe I can take one idea of theirs but try to not use the rest?
I was about to ask that. LOL. Also, I am NOT for GPTChat. But I will say this is a fanfiction. People use prompts from Tumblr and many other places. How is this different? Even though yes, I abhor AI. But I don't think it's wrong to write a fanfic about your favorite anime character that you were given a prompt for. It's not like you're going to publish this and try to make money off of it. If it is a purely personal project you are going to just write for yourself, I say do it. If you are going to be posting on Ao3 or FFN, I would think about not using it.
Hahaha, fun. (Points at profile picture.) I hope it goes well for you. If you need help or want encouragement, feel free to contact me. (See signature and announcement about the new forum above.)
I'm writing a novel to publish so it will be a whole different story, but inspired by fanfiction, if it makes sense. Think Shades of Grey, as that was a fanfiction of Twilight that was remade into what it is today. So, I'm writing my own story that is following a male character who is inspired from my favorite character from "Demon Slayer" but it's not the same character. When I say I've been in a slump, I haven't written consecutively for days in a row for about 3 years now. Up until then I had been writing every day, thousands of words. I whipped out 12 books in 3 different series and I was slowly working on beta reading with them (I'm self publishing). I had a few betas that I had built a rapport with and were doing great work and one of them all of a sudden started criticizing my dialogue on my first series and it caught me off guard. I wasn't sure what she meant by it and she wasn't able to tell me exactly why but just that it was "off." At that time I was a bit burnt out, I had a wrist injury that was flaring up, and I was having a hard time editing them so I decided to take a break. When I tried to come back to writing, I just couldn't. No ideas were coming in, and any of the side stories I wanted to write off my series, just wasn't coming together. It was hard to even write a couple hundred words. And so I'm here today, 3 years later, still struggling. So when I meant by using GPT, I literally needed help just fleshing out ideas. It first gave me a few plot ideas that got me going a little bit so I made it my own and then asked to make sure I wasn't plagiarizing and from there GPT just gave me this big outline with climax, plot points, ideas, and some of them are really dang good. But now I'm anxious I can't use any of them.
Ah, I just saw that as I was writing my previous reply. How neat! Upper Moon 2, I believe? I'm eager to see him in the upcoming movie! But thank you, I will reach out if I need help.
I've read the manga and watched the anime. I don't usually discuss anime and manga in relation to writing but I'm writing a story using several different manga (of a different type) as an inspiration, so feel free to ask, although we'll soon be on the new site. And I can speak Japanese.
Yes I was away for awhile but I did see the note, I'll be there too when it's live. I just wanted to ask since it was on my mind now. Basically should I just discard all the ideas GPT gave me? If I use the plot ideas they gave and publish it, people might think it wasn't "my" writing even though I wrote it. But since I'm in such a slump and brainstorming isn't coming naturally anymore, I fear I won't be able to think of what I want to write.
Okay. That's a completely different story. Hence, I default back to 'if GPT chat thought of x', don't use it. Which I know is hard, but using your own ideas are the best. (Rengokyu??) I am sorry you're in a slump. Don't feel bad about not writing everyday. I don't, but I have 450,ooo words logged on my fanfic account. So, take your time as writing should not be a race. Weird. Beta readers are always a coin-toss. You can send me the scene, if you wish and I can look at the dialogue. But know I'm not great a being gentle about things. Maybe just let this story brew. Some stories are best left to grow like some kind of mold for a bit. Like a fine aged wine. Start by writing something that catches your attention and sounds fun. You will come back to this story, I am sure of it. I believe this is a moral and ethical dilemma you need to sort out for yourself. Because I am 100% on the side of 'don't use it, it's plagiarism'. But I know others have different views and that's okay. But what you need to do is figure out where you stand regarding AI use. Haha, yeah! Upper Two. Thanks. Douma is awesome and I can't wait to see him in the movie, too. I love the most trashy villains.
He's interesting so far, I'm eager to see what he's all about Fudge, my replies didn't quote separately above. Sorry!
Oh, fun! He's an interesting character for sure. And fair. I am so sorry about your injury. Have you tried Speech to Text to write? (I wouldn't count this as AI in it's basic form.) I hope you feel better soon. Also, you could maybe try writing with your other hand? Okay, cool. Let me know and just feel free to PM it. People are weird sometimes. Well, maybe letting it sit will help it solidify. Sometimes I plan and plan, but no matter how much I plotted, it always comes out differently. So, I just don't plot! Or at least, rely on it being a 1:1 match. Again, it is your own choice here. Yeah! I can't wait to see him, either. I adore his garbage ass. Like, he's really messed up and it's beautiful. Anyway, don't worry about the quotes.
Yeah, Mui is so cute especially once he opens up after that arc. I have not, since before I would just type as I went so I was writing what came to mind. I don't use pen to write, only Word on my computer. And using pen hurts my injury more anyway. I did have an MRI done but they didn't find anything as far a fractures or a break but I'm trying to find a surgeon to look at it and go from there. But it may be awhile before I can get anything done on it. I'm right handed only unfortunately. I'll try to get it to you tomorr I've never really plotted. For my three series I mentioned above, my first I already had my two characters that I had created back in high school, and I knew of an idea I wanted to go with them so I wrote from there. My second I literally had a dream of one scene--of my female lead whirling in a circle and her dress flowing out as she reaches up to kiss the male lead--and since I wanted to do an elf couple, I started writing and the plot came to me a little later. I added the scene in the second book from that dream. My third series--a random thought of having my female lead able to see poisons and her catching the prince about to be poisoned led to another 3 book series. So safe to say I'm very stumped now since nothing is coming in my dreams or even if I just pull up Word and stare at a blank page. I did have some concepts when I took a break which I started on but I was burnt out and those projects are on the back burner since I'm not as inspired. I want to write my story and have it be my own so I'm going to discard the plot points GPT gave me. But I think I'll still use some of the character development ideas they mentioned which some I already was planning to do or I knew most likely was going to do before they said them--for example, GPT mentioned Muiricho's memory loss due to a traumatic event, so I already had plans to have my character also have that (but different circumstances, of course). And they mentioned having a love interest helps bring his memories back--which I'm pretty sure I would have thought of if I was able to write as I used too since I'm romance based writer anyway, so I hope I can still use that. So the little development touches I hope that's still okay to use. He already intrigued me during the little meet up at the IC right before 4 and 5 left for the village, and I'm eager to see why Akaza is so annoyed by him, LOL.
I don't remember that, but he's a cool Hashira. Okay, sorry writing by hand isn't an option. You could also try typing with one hand. It might take some time to get used to doing, but I am sure plenty of people have mastered the art. ALSO, the most words on the keyboard are written with the left hand. Ugh, that sucks. Sorry. Cool. I look forward to reading. Wow. We plot/get ideas completely differently. So, I don't know how to help you here. XD Sorry. Well Muchiro's memory loss IS in the manga and anime. I think maybe re-reading the story and making your own notes could help. And I think again, it's a personal choice and I will let you do you. Again, you do you. What you use is your choice. Douma is very fun. But also, the demon slayer fandom is nuts. I watched them go from HATING him with a passion to deciding he's okay and shipping him was Azaka. Which was WILD! Yet, Nnoitra Gilga and Szayelaporro Granz in the Bleach fandom is still an evil bastards? Even though all three share similar personas and evil traits? (When you put them side by side in a weird anime venn diagram??) It's so weird which characters a fandom will love or hate.
I'd probably feel like I'm not able to get anything done when I'm in a writing spree if I only use one hand. So I pace myself and try not to aggravate it during the day so I'm less likely to hurt when I type. Yeah, it's okay, lol. I never thought my mind would just go blank and now I'm stumped but here I am, haha. I actually haven't read the manga but only watched the anime. I am interested though since I hear he interacts more with Nezuko and stuff so that would help. But of course I don't want to plagiarize, so I would put my own twist on his memory loss for my character. I guess I just am asking if it's okay to use the development options they gave. Because even if I go read the manga now, I'm sure I would observe Mui's traits there that GPT found, but would that still be okay to use (not copy, again)? I actually didn't hear Azaka ship but I agree the fandom is nuts. I have heard him shipped with Rengoku :0 And I've heard some downright nasty ones too (ie incest) so yea the fandom is very weird.
