I have a thriller away at the editor's and am currently developing a full length play whilst collating notes for a novel I intend starting in January.

I've been struggling with a story I've had in my head since I was in middle school, a modern fantasy with a heavy backstory of Arthurian legends. I'm on Chapter 22. Funny thing is, my original outline demanded around 20 or 22 chapters, but I'm not even close to being finished, and I'm estimating around 35 to be an ending chapter number. I wonder if the length will deter any possible publishers from even glancing at the manuscript?

A horror story called Red Eyes and Red Nails.
I'm still in chapter one fixing all my mistakes.
But when I'm done with that I will be onto Chpt 2.
Its basically a mental ward haunting and mental people go ghost hunting.
Well they try to figure out the secret of the ghost and the ward itself.

Some of you have read pieces of an earlier draft already (pweeze read the new draft). It's my first diary novel, called The Human Side of Things. I've also decided to revisit a play I wrote in high school, and lost the first half of.

I'm working on a vampire love story

I've got chapter one and two knocked out, though am constantly re-reading and changing! Am doing it in the style of the two MCs get a chapter each ie the first chapter is from her point of view, the second from his, then hers, then his etc etc.

    Am very excited!

Right now, I'm taking a break from writing my first novel. Its around 100,500 total. I'm taking a month or so off, partially because I've been working like a maniac for the past three months to finish it and also because I have finals coming up and I need to start studying. Sometime around the beginning of Febuary, I plan to start the editing and revising process.

    Maia, good point.

I am always working on short stories, mainly flash fiction.

I recently finished my vampire novel, Bending Nature. I am presently working on chapter 10 for my novel, Psy-Vamp: A Novel (based on true events.)

I have also been writting the notes, story elements, and the plot to a sci-fi novel. I am liking what I got so far. I am working out the aspects of this unique species' culture right now.

I am also working on a philosophy book called, Extraterrestrials' Philosophies, or the Philosophies of Extraterrestrials. I will probably go with the second title. I decided to write it in a similar style to the Upanishads.

There are five characters that dialog. The philosopher, the atheist, the Buddhist, the Hindu, and the Christian. They are questioning the philosopher about the ETs' philosophies. I chose to teach a unique philosophy through their conversations.

Well, my most current project, which I'm only working on to get a piece down for later completion is a non-magical fantasy novel. The project currently under research and development now (though it has one finished first draft I am in the process of providing distance for) is a fairly large fantasy novel (read: series), which I can't really put into any specific sub-genre. The project I'm actually in the middle of writing is a sort of steam-punky novel that may or may not fall under "adventure", though not likely action. To answer the second question, the problem I'm having right now is navigating a transition between two slightly different focuses in the story. Words: maybe 6000.

    Go with it.

Things change as you write your story. You get new ideas, old ones evolve, and the story could take a whole new twist or turn.

Don't get overly concerned about what a publisher may want for length right now. Shortening it, you may be taking out exactly what he or she is looking for. Get the draft down and fine tune it. Then worry about the publisher. If your work's is good, they will work with you.

Right now, have fun and put your story on paper.

I've currently got two projects running. One is a Harry Potter fanfic that I started quite some time ago but had to put on a low flame due to relocating and helping my mother build her new house. It's currently about 50k words, which will, guessing from the drafts, be almost two thirds of the whole story.

The other one is still only a collection of ideas that accumulated over the last years and a very rough story outline. It will be a series of contemporary/alternate world fantasy novels that also carry some elements of a coming-of-age novel in an epic setting. The main protagonist will be a teenage girl who's always been a bit of an outsider, with a friendly character but not really fitting in. Over the story, she discovers and tries to unravel secrets about her past which put all her beliefs about herself in question and make her the target of manipulation and conspiracies. She finds out that there is a whole hidden world with elves, daemons, wizards and magical beasts, and that she is also gifted with powers that can not be explained with the science she was taught at school.

At first, those new powers earn her admiration in the new found magical world, and she even finds her first true friend there. But just when she thinks she might have found a place where she fits in, envy and manipulations threaten to destroy that again.

It's a quest for truth and acceptance, but beyond that, it is a story about shouldering destiny and finding strength in friendship and love.

The story I'm currently working on is a series of books about a hitman trying to find his family's killer. I'm a couple chapters into the second book of the series and the first is in the editing phase. That project is on hiatus as I am currently focusing on my songwriting.

I'm working on my first book, non-fiction, and am not particularly far into it yet (about 13,500 words). Had hoped it would go a bit faster - I have a few more weeks of utter peace and quiet and am aiming to get up to maybe 30,000 words by the end of that. The idea is to have an, admittedly very raw, first draft (or portion thereof) and then re-work it over the year and following winter.
I'm having a hard time because I'm used to writing articles in the 800 word range, so I keep squishing everything I want to say on one topic on one page.

And I'm working on a feature article on kayaking, plus some shorter articles since I find it hard to write good query letters without having written the actual article first.

I’m working on a novel (fan fiction) based on the incredible adventure stories of Robert E Howard’s fictional Hyborian Age and introducing my own heroine.

Like all young Stygian females of her time, Aneksi, is send to the temples of Derketo to serve a term and transmute into womanhood. In her new reality she is plunged into a world she never imagined; a labyrinth where the secrets of her bloodline’s mysterious prophesy connect to an inconceivable evil hidden in the depths of the southern kingdoms. Aneksi must fight to lead her people into the new world, to preserve their culture and religion, to birth the serpent king, the ruler of kings, against the new growing sect – the Hand of Damballah and their prophet Ramla.

I am in the beginning phase of a children/young adult book. I have just over 4,000 words. I also have a screenplay adaptation I have been in the middle of for FAR too long!

I'm currently working on a novel. It hasn't got a full direction yet but I've only just completed chapter 1. It's sort of fantasy.. not really a romance though he does try to get the attention of a girl in it but shes in love with his brother thats basically the romance side of it.
I hope i actually finish it.

I am just trying to see what flows out of me write now. I am working on different Short Stories but I think one of them is going to be a novella. There is just a lot I see going on with that one.

I am also going to start trying to turn my last novella into a full novel. I like the concept and see places where I can add a lot more story and add to what is already in my mind.

I have a couple things that I have thought about alot but haven't actually started writing yet. One is a dream containing a bunch of dreams, which is something I actually experienced. The other, which is very vague in my mind right now, will be on the topic "point of view".

Writing an adult fantasy novel at the moment. Chapters 1-3 being revised again as I write it on and off. So I want to make changes due to the time gap. 4-6 being written for the first time. Rather glad to make headway in chapter 4, gave me trouble.

I'm in the brainstorming stages of my next project. I haven't written anything since about early September (I was AWOL until recently, heh), and I've discovered some inspiration these past few days while on holiday vacation. I'm toying with this idea right now, trying to work out all of the major kinks and details before I officially start. I actually hate this process, because it's like being trapped in the middle of fog. I know what I want, but at the same time it's hard to "see", lol.

Finally deciding to continue writing my first novel. I've had the story in my head for months but i'm far too lazy to actually write it down. I'm gonna rewrite the first chapter again and see what i do different and then hopefully continue.

    Oh yeah. It's a fantasy..hopefully a trilogy

The current project I'm working on is loosely based on a very well-known musical (Evita) and I'm listening to cast recordings to help set the mood (studio cast and movie soundtrack) even though the novel is set in futuristic Cuba. Does anyone else listen to a particular CD while planning things out?
Or have something in the works or in progress loosely based on something else?

    Here's a sample of what I have:
Che is a clone of Che, Eva is also a singer (as well as an actress) who's got a radio show on a secret station and is hugely possessive of him and plays a parental role, the Peron figure is the President's trusted advisor, and the first lady is Eva's "best friend".

i often play music to set the scene in my head, when writing about a particular place... such as playing mariachi music when i was writing about mexico and bazouki cds when writing about greece [i've been many times to both, so it 'brings it back']...

I'm on my first ( and probably last) book, and have been writing it for 2 years next week.

I'm not quite there with the story yet, I had just finished a second draft but my betas told me they didn't like the ending.

Not even started checking it for grammar and the like, and can still see me being at it in another tear yet.

You may think that's a long time to be stuck on the same book, but you see, I drive for a living and have 2 young children so literally The only time i have to write is on my 45 minute tacho break.

It's a once in a life time sort of thing and can't see me writing another, so I want to get this just right. It's a Labour of love.

So how long have you been writing your current work?
