    The Snowflake Method

Discussion in 'Plot Development' started by Not the Admin, Aug 31, 2011.

For those of you suffering from writer's block or simply want to plan for your next project, I recommend the snowflake method. I've been reading an article about this method, and it seems like something that will help keep the inspiration for a novel growing. I hope you find this article useful and put it to use. As for myself, I'm going to try it out to see if it will help me formulate a real plot instead of just random ideas.

I've used it twice in the past, when I was really stuck, though I find steps 1 and 2 the most helpful. Once I get there, I know where to go next. His method can be a bit stifling to me, though it is really well thought out.

I am using it and loving it! The perfect thing for oraganising your thoughts and digging deeper into your plot and characters.

This might work for people who are good at sticking to plans, but I personally like to have breathing space. If I have a concrete plan for a story, it feels harder to write it since I've basically already told the story. I don't see the use in writing it when I already know it. It's the discovery that I crave.

EDIT: That said, I'll be using this to plot my Pokémon fan-game, I think. This might help a lot.

Did Orhan Pamuk know about this method when he wrote "Snow" ?
