Had my Olympics volunteer interview today. It went okay I think but I probably won't hear back for a while. Ah well, it's cool I got to the interview stage anyway, whether I get offered a role or not.
Awww he sounds adorable, Mallory. My boyfriend finally got his port (chemo delivery medical implant) out today. All went well. It's been worrying me for a really long time and I'm very glad he finally got it done. It was going to cost too much with his insurance but blessedly he got in touch with a doctor he met through work who's a vascular surgeon. So it's out! It's gone! He's safe! Very very thankful! I'm waiting on the results for my bone density scan (radiation to my spine = monitoring for possibly osteoporosis). I'm really nervous about it. But the good news is last night I got my test results back for my vitamin D levels and it's up ten points from last time I had it checked a couple years ago! So I'm doing my best to believe that means my bones are stronger.
I'm glad that everything is going well for you medically right now, Terra! And I am so glad that things worked out medically and financially for your boyfriend. Here's to a future where you both only get healthier and stronger! On a less serious but still just as exciting note, I was just informed that my two favorite poets, Buddy Wakefield & Anis Mojgani (along with Derek Brown) are all going to be on my school campus in less than 48 hours where they will host a poetry revival! For absolutely free! I cant wait to see my two literary and personal idols with my own two eyes. I've been told that when touring they tend to stick around to meet people. I hope I can meet them! I've joked for so long that I'd love to meet Buddy, hug him, inform him of how much his words have affected me, and then propose. Now, if I want to, I probably can! Oh my gosh!!!
Well got wonderfully amazing news today Got some bad, but it could be a whole lot worse so I'm not complaining one bit. Wonderful mood, and it is snowing.. how much better can it get?
So it turns out my university may actually be haunted! There's a building there that's reputed to be the shelter of at least two ghosts. Even better, I have walked by this building every day for years on end, never knowing of it's secrets. No, I'm not going to investigate it! But it's cool to realize that I'm attending a university that has its haunts.
I had the opportunity to meet my literary and personal inspirations last night!! Buddy Wakefield, Anis Mojgani, and Derrick Brown came to my school last night for a poetry revival performance. And it was amazing. Derrick Brown did his poem called "Strange Light" which is the title of his soon-to-be-released book. Buddy did "Hurling Crowbirds at Mockingbars," "My Town," and "The Information Man." Anis did a ton, and I don't know all of the names to them. He did "Invincible" and a poem about his wife and one called "Rossie's Lemon Tree" and one that (and I quote) sounds like it's about shooting up heroin, but it's not. I posted photos to the photo sticky thread if anyone is interested... I got to meet them afterward and get things signed and even dance with Buddy.
I have no idea why I am happy. I just am. It's a rare thing to be enjoyed. I guess though, nobody really NEEDS a reason to be happy. Plus.. I am writing more, so yeah.. things are just awesome sauce.
Just crossed the 40k words milestone in my book. And on top of that, I'm reaching the end of part one and have -finally- figured out where to take the story in part two. Only took me, ah, six years or so.
The day before my finals and sometimes it's best to just relax for a bit and enjoy the small pleasures in life. Like this apple. Man, this is one juicy apple.
Quercus was so amazing today! Blogged, read a manuscript to be published next year, got a goodie bag and an awesome hardback book to review (and keep!), attended an amazing board meeting with the scary editor, wrote reports for submissions to be REJECTED! Fuck me this is my dream job. Assistant editor is gonna introduce me to editing lingo this week too! SO EXCITING. *breathe*
If editing lingo turns out to be 'alter this thingamajig' I'll have a giggle at its technical nature At least someone's getting ahead at the moment. Pleased for you
Almost finished preparing my Christmas post and cards. Last but certainly not least... my grandmother's.
Exams are done!!!! No more (until spring)!!!! I can finally start writing and reading what I want to again. And mom and I are doing some Christmas cleaning before we put up all the decorations. Finally getting some Christmas spirit back after a rather tiring December full of exams.
