I'm jealous. I want to see Chitchen Itza, Palenque, Tikal, &c. Chitchen Itza is truly awesome, breathtaking. You can see all of the pictures but when you walk through the jungle and see it standing there words cannot describe the affect it has on your mind. Climbing it is scary as hell, the steps are very narrow and steep. Coba is small and falling apart but the ball court at chitchen Itza is also awesome. The walls are perfectly plumb and the stones are huge and perfectly carved, you can't slip a credit card between some of them. How they lifted them blows your mind. Damn; I am jealous as well. First a Harley and now this. I hate you Felipe. Don't be too jealous, remember i got off of the Harley at 85 MPH just over a month ago and still hurt. I want to explore jungles and caves. The jungle in the Yucatan is really thick. Large crabs with one big claw and one small one scurry into holes the burrow out of the rotting foliage. Jaguars once roamed there and were worshiped. the plants are completely different than here in the states. The Yucatan is also home to Dos Ojos cave system, the largest underwater cavern system yet to be explored. These caves are not boring like the smooth holes of Florida, you are actually swimming through formations of stalactites and stalagmites. We swam toward a thin laser looking beam of blue light penetrating the darkness and came up in a cavern. Our light made hundreds of Free tailed Bats begin flying everywhere, but the cavern was big.
another great idea! i'm afraid my list will take up an awful lot of page space, though... Where in the world I’ve been/lived: N. I was raised in and around Toronto, and lived in Victoria, BC for five years. I'm familiar with the Canadian west coast, all the way up to the Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida Gwaii, to the natives there). I've lived in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California for the last fifteen years, and I've spent a lot of time in Orlando, Florida and six months in Tokyo.
I like this thread. It's one of the rare instances in which communism can work. Each gives according to abilities and takes according to need. Well, here we go. What I can give: Feel free to talk to me if you want my two cents on: US foreign policy and history, US presidents (any of them), Israel, American-Israeli relations, Palestinian-Israeli relations, the Lincoln assassination, the Rabin assassination, the Bay of Pigs invasion, pre-Pinochet era, jobs in telemarketing/sales/customer services, theological debate, Jews, American talk radio, American serial killers. What I wanna take: I'm planning to write a fantasy type story and I never read fantasy any more. I also don't really plan to. Anyone who wants to brainstorm with me is welcome.
Where to start... I am a professional poker player, I have had two documentaries done on me, I am an author, I've lived in a Buddhist monestary, My wife has just come home after 24 years in prison and so, am well aquainted with the prison system, Special Operations with the military, Captured and spent nine months in a prison camp in the old Soviet Union, Starred in an infomercial, Degree's in mathematics and physics, American Indian living on a reservation, this could go on a while...
I'm bipolar, and quite open about that. A lot of people seem to think that this is in some way brave of me to say it, or the object of sympathy. I don't find having Manic Depression hinders me in any way, and I'm just the same as everyone else. I've also had a grandfather who had to be treated in a psychiatric ward; so I'm very much aware of madness and what it can do. I'm also a decedent of the Armstrong Clan, and anyone who knows more than they perhaps should about the pre-Union relations between England and Scotland will know what utter douche-bags my progenitors were. But they are quite famous, and I have the Armstrong Big Toe, that is actually referenced in Fallout 3. Weird huh? I've worked in for a newspaper and been published a number of times as a journalist. I was in a small grunge band for two years, and been on a tour of the north of England with this band. I've also traveled to all parts of Greece, and large parts of Italy, Turkey (where I was very close to a firefight between government forces and Kurdish rebels) and Spain, I've also been to Egypt for a day and Amsterdam twice, for a day. I've lived in England and Scotland, mostly in the Highlands, and also been a part of the surfing scene in Newquey, Cornwall for the past few years. I'm currently doing an English degree. Oh, and I've also been in a riot at T in the Park, which is a music festival in Sterling, Scotland. I'm not proud.
I once caught a fish this big. Spreads arms wider than anyone can see. Great idea for a thread and my greatest respect to the OP, and most of the other posters, but there's one or two Walter Mittys in the room, which I think is a bit disrespectful. Shame, because the truth is usually far more interesting than the time I wrestled ten grizzly bears for Dutch television, coincidentally saving the life of Eddy Van Halen using a special kick of my own invention, which later went on to be used by Bruce Lee in the film Game Of Death, which was secretly made out of respect for me.
Everyones lives are so intresting not sure mine will add any help for anyone but here goes Worked in a bar, kitchen, cricket ground and a newsagents Just left a career in banking to stay at home with my family im a mother and also make home made soft toys and bags pretty much your typical soccer mom go to every child friendly group you can think of travelled to australia Rhodes spain france (im still fairly yound) And i have an immagination like no other
I sell advertising space for an international magazine. I travel at least once every two months. Generally around Central and Eastern Europe but occasionally Africa and the Middle East. Unfortunately, travelling for business means I rarely see enough (or any, in some cases) of the country I'm in, but I can tell you a lot about international airports, hotels and cab drivers spanning four continents! I'm in a civil partnership with my long term boyfriend. We live in London and I can tell you a worrying amount of horror stories of the abuse and hate we've faced here. I've seen a large part of Europe recreationally and have lived in Italy for stretches (my mum has a house there) - so if any aspects of my crazy mishmash life are useful for someone's research, feel free to drop me a PM.
And on May 10th of this year I will be celebrating 20 years clean. As for locations... everywhere pretty much. I had to list every place I've lived for seven years as part of a security clearance...over 200 addy's.
My 'settings' experiences are as modest as my career, but for what it's worth I live in the north-east of England, and my mother is Welsh so i spend quite a bit of time visiting family there. Me and my husband love going to France and go whenever we can, usually to Paris, Brittany and Loire Valley. I eloped to Umbria, Italy, which was fabulous, and we ski so I know a bit about European ski resorts (and falling down!).
Still a college dude looking for a job. Although, I have traveled before. Let's see, I've been to: #1- Washington, D.C where I toured the major memorials, the Capitol building and saw the White House from across the street. #2- New York City where I saw the Statue of Liberty from a distance. #3- Gettysburg where I walked across the actual battlefield, including Pickett's Charge. It's here I purchased a Confederate and Union hat. I slept in the Braffington Hotel, in the actual room where there's a bullet still lodged into a fireplace mantel. #4- Philadelphia where I toured Independence Hall and visited the Constitution Museam where they had bronze, life-size statues of the Founders drafting the Constitution. I remember sleeping in a hotel that used to be a home. In a drawer, there was a very old copy of A Simpleton and White Lies. #5- Valley Forge where I entered the actual cabins the early American soldiers slept in. It's here I purchased a tricorne hat and tourist replicas of the Declaration and Constitution. Yeah, not a lot, I know. I want to make it a goal to explore Europe later in life.
One of my best and favorite characters is a compulsive liar who tells fantastic tales about himself, it is the sign of a fertile imagination.
lets see, EMT in the south Bronx, who studies business currently, and rides a motorcycle. Past things, Painter (mainly restoration projects) competitive shooter (three position air rifle, and archery) now just a casual shooter was licensed to captain boats under 100 feet handler at few dog shows, did some street racing ( I am very good at going to fast on sport bikes and snowmobiles), ran cross country, played football, and competed in orienteering, along with tones of outdoor sports. (ask if interested) I have lived in the NYC area Penobscot county Maine and Worchester county Massachusetts.
someone just reminded me of some other fields of endeavor i've toiled in... bartender cocktail waitress (small) local department store manager telephone service rep for the socal gas company ass't producer of celeb interviews for a tv talk show
Ah, yes. I did some bartending in college as well, in a very nice restaurant. Was a great place to work. Although on one occasion one of the waiters asked me to do a baked Alaska presentation at a table in the bar. Only I had never done one before, and I ran out of chocolate syrup before the flames were extinguished. So the man and women sitting there ended up getting a free baked Alaska (done right), and I got a $20 tip because I think they felt bad for me
cool thread felipe well during the many years i have been alive...approaching two decades...soon...in a couple of years... anyway ive been a student, a writer at a young age, an avid soccer player since i was about 9 until i had my confidence ruined (even though i got back into it last year), i recently received an early round offer to study pharmacy so im pretty happy with that, although medicine is still an option for later round offers, but I think for my next stage in life I will hopefully be a pharmacist since I enjoy the whole business side to it, (and writer/actor/international superstar singing sensation/rich and famous for nothing ie being adopted by a kardashian or something) signing off ishak
