What compells you to write? Someone will say something, or do something. Something will happen to me, or I will hear something and I'll have a flash of a storyline or a scene in my head and I can't not write about it.

Why do you write? It calms me. It clears my head. It makes me happy. It makes me feel like I accomplished something.

What makes you write what you write? I am obsessed with relationships, love. I like the way that people interact with each other. I like the way it feels when you're falling in love. I like to write that feeling. Or you get your heart broken and it hurts so bad you wonder if you'll ever get through it. I like writing about that, and then coming out on the other side, or seeing that first ray of sunshine that makes you realize that it won't be like this forever.

What Made you decide you liked to write? I don't know, it was 4th grade. And I just liked it ever since then. It just makes me feel better.

What Do You Write? chic-flick stuff. Ushy gushy romance. stuff that is real and people feel everyday.

I write because I enjoy doing so, sure some of the stuff I have written hasn't been that good (like my first few poems) but the more I write, the better I've gotten, of course.

    What compels you to write?
    A deep need for self-expression.

    Why do you write?
Whenever I write, or tell a story, any story, I feel satisfied, in a way that no other activity satsfies me. Also writing is theraputic.

What makes you write what you write?
I write things that I am interested in myself. I tell stories I'd like to listen to or read.

What made you decide you liked to write?
Inspired by the works of Stephen King, I started writing in High School. I was delighted to discover that it felt good and people enjoyed my work. So I kept doing it.

    What Do You Write?
    Novels and Short Stories

    What compells you to write?
My brain. It often won't leave me alone until I do some writing.

    Why do you write?
So many reasons... I find it rewarding. It keeps me sane.
Also I find it inordinately difficult to express my thoughts verbally, and as long as I keep writing I keep my tenuous grip on the ability to communicate like a human.
Also, I do love the English language. I'm so glad that this is my language.

What makes you write what you write?
To be honest I don't have a whole lot of control over the fantasies in my head. Some of them are the kind I write, some of them aren't. I have to get myself emotionally invested in what I write, otherwise I can't write it.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
    I don't think I ever decided.

    What Do You Write?
Anything with a ridiculously complicated and difficult to follow plot with lots of character development. Often something Sci-Fi because that just seems so much more exciting.

    1) Normally some external input. Maybe a person or a trait, maybe a place or an idea, or even a turn of phrase.

2)Because it's the most consistent way of channeling my creativity. I've written and recorded music, I've painted and drawn and sculpted. I've taken photographs and I've dabbled in film-making but the phases come and go. Writing has stuck. Also, because I feel like it has more to say. A picture can be beautiful, a song can stir emotions, but by far the easiest way of conveying my ideas and thoughts is through words. Ideally, I'd like to leave something behind that's a bit more substantial than a pretty picture.

3&4) These two are kind of bound up, and I trace them both back to the book "The Night Watch" by Terry Pratchett. He is without a doubt the man who made me want to write, and, young as I was (I think around 9?) that book had a tremendous influence over my style of writing. Pratchett's relative wordiness, his leaning towards tangents, and his own particular brand of incongruous humour have all had profound influences on me. Content-wise, I'd trace that back to the book H.G.Wells' The Time Machine. I've always like science and that book was the first to really show me that it could be used seriously in fiction, as opposed to the lasers and monsters of my youth.

    5) A variety of things. I love fantasy, and creating worlds and intricate lore is a hobby of mine. But rarely can I pick out one particular thread that I think is better than all the others, at least enough to write about. Instead, I normally write stories that are set on Earth but look at things from a different angle.

    Hope this ain't too cliche:

I write cause it's the one thing I think I'm better at than at least some people out there. I want to be a graphics programmer on the side; not even close to reliable there. I also write cause it hurts if I don't. I don't dream programming. I don't fantasize bits and bytes. So much drama in my head, I just feel unaccomplished if I don't write. The times I do, when I take all that stuff and mush (edit + re-edit +++) it into something solid, I'm at least satisfied. Better than feeling unaccomplished.

I write because can't sing or dance :D

Every once is a while I write a paragraph that I like, and every once is a while I write one I love, and sometimes people agree

    That's why

I'll be honest, there aren't many things that compel me to write, but that doesn't mean I dislike writing. I just have simple reasons for why I do it. And I do it for other people, not to sound awfully soppy and contrived, but it's true. I want other people to read my work, I want to make them smile, make them sad or happy - just make some sort of impact. That's one reason. The other is that I just like getting my ideas out, and I enjoy the process. There's no better feeling than seeing the progress you've made, to see the word count go up, and, more importantly, let others read what you're written.

    Why Do I Write?

    What compels you to write?
I am too caught up on the different interpretations of the word "compel" to choose an appropriate one. Not finding a single definition that I care to elaborate on I refrain from sharing my thoughts on compulsion.
    Why do you write?
I write firstly for pleasure and secondly for exposure. The pleasure comes from working with the English language and choosing between all of the unique forms of expression, utilizing subtle nuances of speech to create larger ideas. The variety and infinite combinations of simple forms of expression are like a puzzle just waiting to be solved. For exposure, I hope to share what I write. We all hold unique values, not to mention perspectives on the world we live in. To use those terms not all of us even live in the same world, planet earth aside. I write as a form of communication and a tool for sharing truth. Hopefully, my earlier statements have made it apparent that I don't ascribe to a singular truth, perspective, or value. The act of sharing contains more force than the content, as illustrated by the equation for momentum: Momentum equals velocity squared times mass. Velocity, being the act of sharing, rises exponentially and content is stuck with mass and linear growth.
What makes you write what you write?
My content is defined by the fact that I live my life in fear. I do not worry, and I am not afraid of spiders or physical harm or death (mostly). I think that fear has ingrained its way into my regular way of thinking. I measure possibilities, extrapolate repercussions, and choose safe and predictable outcomes. What I write alternately becomes those thoughts that I dare not contemplate on a regular basis and an imaginative exercise of more extrapolations and possibilities.
What made you decide you liked to write?
Space in a word. The blank page has a lot of elbow room. The biggest deciding factor was the mass amount of media I have engorged myself with, and my reciprocal dissatisfaction with it. Wouldn't this story be so much better if this had happened instead, leading to a chain of events that symbolized or expressed something completely different. I'm not saying I could make a better T.V show or R.P.G. game than most, but the liberty in writing your own story is far more enriching than being a part of someone else's.
    What Do You Write?
Fiction, almost exclusively. I find that lies: help me illustrate truth better, accommodate my use of fear, allow for a comfortable level of exposure, and gives me the creative liberty to solve those puzzles of English in the media I'm comfortable with.

I used to write short stories about love in high school. Then I thought (with my parents influence) that it is not serious business and not job at all. I studied criminal law for 4 years and was a detective for 3 minutes. And I went back to writing, not professionally, when I feel like, but I never look back.

I write because it's my catharsis. I have manic depression and it's the only thing that can calm me down. Also, I write because I want to be published and known. However, the only way I can be known is if and only if my blog does well. You're like why? If popular, it'd be easier to gain exposure when I write the novel. What do you think?

I started to write because on the 1st of Jan, 2011, I my new year's resolution was to do something different with my life. Not knowing any better, I chose to write a book. It's worth mentioning that I hadn't written a single thing since leaving school in 1974, my job didn't involve writing, (I work long hours driving excavators and dumptrucks), I had never had any ambition to write, no idea for a book, and I type with one finger. Nonetheless, I started writing a mystery/crime novel the next day based on what happened to be on the TV news that week, and just less than a year later I finished my first,(and as it turned out, only) draft. By this time I had learned that most writers spend 1-3 years re-writing and editing their first novel, and most still don't get published. 95% of published books earn less than £3500 (approx $5-6000) and the vast majority of writers earn less than £7000 p/a (approx $10,000 p/a). Seeing little prospect of a publishing deal, but bolstered by rave reviews from family and friends, such as "I've read worse" and, "Better than I was expecting", I decided to self-publish my "raw" masterpiece as an Ebook. I know it will never make money, but there is a huge amount of satisfaction to be gained from having strangers read my book, and not ask for their money back, (so far!) I have now caught the writing bug, have started a follow-up, with a third book already rattling around my head, and have a new ambition - I will try to finish a book properly, and have it professionally proof-read, (my wife proof-read my first, but she is dyslexic, seriously!) I may even try a creative writing course, and perhaps one day I will see something I've written in print. But even if it doesn't work out that way, nothing now will stop me from writing, it has become a compulsion

--I write because somebody forgot to tell me not to.

--I write what I write because plays have an extra tinge of silence I love to immerse myself in.

--I decided I liked writing when my elementary school teacher told me I wasn't half bad.

--I write the message I have trouble saying out loud.

When I want to read a story in a given genre, and find that there's none that suit my taste, I write a story to fill a niche. So mostly beacuse a type of story I like hasn't been written before.

I write because it is a part of who I am. Maybe that sounds crazy, but it seems so natural. It just happens. I can't not write. I enjoy writing; it has been my outlet, my stabilizer, my ladder. It got me through some tough times - my teenage years (no explanation required), the death of my most important mentor, and the illness that confined me to bed for eight months.

Right now, I write what I write because I need to broaden my abilities. I wrote fanfiction for many years, and that was simultaniously my best idea and my worst mistake. I was locked into a world of writing characters that already exist, were already formed, and now I need to learn how to create and embrace my own characters. But I wouldn't change my fanfiction writing for the world. I have learned so much from it.

I first decided to write "for real" (not just for school, pretty much) when I realized that reading made me think. I never had to "decide" I liked writing. It was love at first write from the beginning. ;)

And, finally: I write short stories, screenplays, and I hope to soon write full-size novels. I also occasionally write fanfiction still, just for fun and to get some constructive feedback from certain groups. :)

I like to write because, according to others I am fairly good at it. The key thing I enjoy about writing is being free to write directly from my imagination. I have no limits to where my writing can take me which is the main reason I do it.

Not really sure if anything I have written falls into a genre, I tend to write random short stories, usually 1-2 pages long of what is in my head at that point in time.

Writing to me is just a great way to keep my mind active, I don't much care if others don't like my work, as long as I can express myself and enjoy doing it, that is all that matters :)

You can site a lot of reasons for why you write, your kids, fame, fortune, bla bla, but at the end of the day you have to do it for yourself. These things may inspire you to write, but you have to enjoy the process. Personally I find the process hard sometimes. I have a beginning, I know the ending and I'm impatient to add all the filling in between. But the buzz when it all comes together is incredible.

I write because otherwise my head would explode with stories. I write because I can't stop :)

I daydream all the time and I'm a very visual person, so I have images flooding around in my head all day long.

1: The endless possibilities of creating a world full of characters who do and act as only you can create them. The power of god bestowed into every paragraph. A god who is flawed. Characters who act inconsistently of the nature that was intended or an invironment that never "looks" the way it was intended. It's a mixture of challenge and power at the fingertips that always has me trying and failing hoping to one day succeed in creating something great.

    2. Between school and watching my dad stare intently at a screen for hours on end always made we wonder what it was like. I've started with poetry and moved on to short stories (Mainly because I could never write anything bigger without concern that it was inconsistent of itself.) I love to get lost in a world that looks and feels just they way i want it to, and if it doesn't I can always delete it.
3: A hard question to answer without knowing one's own mind. Fantasy has always fascinated me. I use to go on yahoo chat to a place called Mystic Tavern and Inn. It was a tavern setting located deep in a forest, a lake with a setting moon on the horizon of the treetops a short walk from the tavern's entrance. The individuality of the characters and they way they wrote themselves up, whether they be vampire or a hulking 400 pound slab of beef with a broad sword rested on their shoulder, it was just intriguing to create a personae of yourself or how you would like to see yourself in a fantasy setting and interact with these people. I was already ingrossed in the fantasy setting and finding a whole world based on it only brought on a broader realization of my interest in the medieval world. I've dabbled with suspense and realism but I've always come full circle to the fantasy.
4: The first time I did an essay. I wrote one for class once and I bombed. I stood in front of class and when I finished I looked up to a mixture of laughter and confusion. No one understood what i was trying to say. Of course I became embarrased to stand infront of class from that point on. But one day I wrote an essay and I stood infront of class. I had to start over twice because I was so nervous my voice would drop too low for them to hear me. But when I finally got through it and I got a pat on the shoulder from my teacher (A real goofy guy who was big into politics and political jokes.) followed by "Dang boy. You want to write my next speach to congress?" The class laughed and he started clapping and motioning to the class to do the same until I sat down. The feeling I got from that made me feel good and I started writing poems and letting my mother and father read them. My dad was big into critiquing and it gave us something to share an interest in. After a few years it became as much a compulsion as it was an interest.
5: I think I answered this in "What makes you write what you write?"

There are so many ways to answer these questions and I hope that the answers I have given are adequate enough.
