The villain from the Robocop II? I generally think of a villain or anti-hero. Someone edgier and dark. This whole discussion is a trope by the way.
I'm completely unoriginal & uninteresting. It just makes me think of the bible reference, not all. It doesn't remind me of anything cool.
This guy -> http://images.wikia.com/vampires/images/f/fb/Kain.jpg From a totaly awesome 1990's videogame series "Legacy Of Kain". TOTALY AWESOME. But that might be too dorky/obscure a reference to be influential. Seriously though. Look into Legacy of Kain. Those guys deserve all the credit they can get. Then I think of a character I have whose last name is Cain. (Sorry. C: ) Then I think of the biblical guy. I'd avoid the little dottie things. Being not a linguist, they confuse me. Kayene maybe? Starts to sound girlie though. :C
It makes me think... Tall, dark, black hair and intense blue eyes. Broad shoulders, well built. Early/mid 20s, for age. Attractive, mysterious, with a tendency to seemingly disappear into thin air. Hope I helped.
So THAT'S what I was thinking of. Right. So if you want to break the "cane/Cain/Caine" connection, spell it with a K and a diaresis, and hope.
Am I the only one who thinks of Sandy Mitchell's Ciaphas Cain novels ahead of the biblical ones? That, and I believe Cain is referenced on the first page of the Dresden Files novel Dead Beat. Mind you, I'm guessing I'm one of the few Black Library fans on this forum, so yeah. That's probably why.
The bible at first but if you add the word prince i think of royal or regal person who is very rich....who is very, very handsome...
When I hear the name Cain I think of a guy in his late twenties or early thirties who lives in a modern apartment and has a good job and no kids and some really stereotype-beautiful girlfriend who's really rich. But that's just me.
As has been pointed out, the name Cain is very very very common for the fantasy/video game stereotype of a tall and handsome (and possibly dark) anti hero. Cain now just strikes me as unoriginal and cliched. Sorry.
I think Battlestar Galactica... Commander Cain as played by Lloyd Bridges. "Tomorrow we go on the offensive. We'll show those golmonging Cylons how to fight now! Yes, by the Lords of Kobol, the Cylon Empire is about to fall!" LOL ~Mordred
When I see that name, I either think of the byblical story, or one of my own characters, who's name is Cain-No, he didn't kill his brother, and isn't a villian.
It makes me think of a character in a soap opera over here in the UK called Emmerdale. He is a bad guy, that some ladies find irresistible, he is sarcastic, arrogant, lives on the other side of the law, but loves his family etc.... probably not so helpful to you guys in the states sorry
Heh, I got 4 characters with that name. One of them a protagonist who's trying to become an emperor (and will succeed). I guess I immidiately think though of a likable republican candidate who got into a lot of trouble recently.
Haha. Me too and I'm not even American! I personally am not a fan of the name Cain. Having said that I read books all the time with character names I dislike.
The first thing that comes to mind is the biblical story of Cain and Abel. A prince with the name Cain would inspire visions of an evil prince that wants to do everything by force/violence/bloodshed. I would agree though that Prince Cain does sound a bit dorky. Perhaps the brother with the squint eyes that are too far apart that cant ascend to the throne because he can't even spell his name, much less run the kingdom, so he makes a plan and starts killing people....
I think of the old wise Deckard Cain from Diablo series. He is very old and knowledgable, oh and he is the last survivor of his clan.
I think of canes that people use to walk with. Or the ones that were used to hit people with. Then I think that it seems Bible related, but for some reason sexy sounding.
I'd spell it Ka'in. That looks different enough that it won't seem like Cain, and the apostrophe forces you to make it two syllables.
I instantly think "Asian". More specifically a Chinese martial artist. Maybe an old man with white hair and a white fu man chu.
