    Q. What compels you to write?
    A. A KGB Officer with a 9X18 Markrov pressed against the back of my head.

    Q. Why do you write?
    A. My writing skills had decayed after school so it started as a simple exercise to reinvigorate the old unused brain cells, later I became addicted to the act of writing. "Hi my name is Bob and I am a writer." Crowd: "Hi Bob."

    Q. What makes you write what you write?
    A. I love a good Science Fiction or Fantasy story, how could I write anything else?

    Q. What Do You Write?
    A. Half Tom Clancy, half JRR Tolkien, yes in the same book, there is nothing like blowing a dragon out of the sky above a medieval battlefield with a redeye missile, Huzzah!

I write because I feel I need to. It helps me think. It entertains me. I've written a bunch of stories with the same group of characters I've grown to like very much.

    1. In terms of inspiration: Nature
In terms of motivation: My dreams of traveling the world.

    2. Because love to write; it is an art form. I get to be the creator of worlds, many different complex characters, concepts, realities, etc.

    3. The world and Myself! I want to give a bit of magic to the world because there are so many depressed and sad people in this world. It is my goal to make people feel good and enjoy themselves. I want to be able to show them the magic of the world and at the same time stimulate their minds.
I also do it because it gives me pleasure and stimulates my brain at the same time; opening my mind up to may different ideas and philosophies.

    4. Seeing the joy and tears (joyful tears) on my mothers face as she read my first story; I was stunned that my writing could do that to someone. I realized that my writing made people feel good and I wanted to make others feel happy. So, from then I was in love with writing.

    5. Fantasy with occasionally a little bit of Sci-Fi.

    Why?

Writing has always been my number one expression. When my emotions are high, I write them out. When I think of the future, I write who I am now. When I think of death, I write to my child.
Writing is who I am, it is part of me.

    What compells you to write?
I don't know. I just get these ideas to my head and I just need to write them down. And I enjoy it too. It's like therapy.
    Why do you write?
Hard questions! I guess it's a way to escape boring weekdays. I can create whatever I want, do what ever I want to the characters, and just write. It's quite satisfactory.
What makes you write what you write?
I really don't kow! Like I said before, I just get these ideas to my head and they just need to be written down.
What made you decide you liked to write?
I have never "decided" it. I just do it.
    What do you write?
All kinds of things. Right now, I'm starting on my first novel. I mean, I have started to write novels before, but I always get bored with them. Now I think that I have the right plot and the right characters.

What compells you to write? I'm not sure. I've always wrote things, stories, poetry, etc... Maybe its a way of expressing myself through the world of others. I know a part of it has to do with the fact that I always have all these ideas and sometimes when I write them down it distracts me from reality. Its a way to cope with mundane of life.
Why do you write? I write to express myself. Even if nothing I write ever becomes "infamous" or "famous," I'll at least have my own fantastical places I can delve into.
What makes you write what you write? I write darker stories but always have a variety of elements involved. Mostly horror/fantasy. I think its because my life has gone down very negative roads and life is always challenging -- to everyone. Edgar Allan Poe is my inspiration. His vivid imagination and ability to write such words to evoke strong emotions has always captivated my attention. I think I write what I do because of my life - a way to cope with issues - and my dark imagination, along with remembering my favorite works of Edgar, have shaped my style.
What Made you decide you liked to write? I had always been told by teachers when I was little that I absolutely hated writing but once they got me to start they often had a very difficult time to get me to stop! Haha. Any time an assignment came and I would write a story, I usually captivated everyone's attention, including my teacher's... no exaggeration. That was definitely a key part. I can't exactly pin point how or when I started to like writing but I know I do now :)

I love music. I listen to it for at least 8hrs a day. To me, each song tells a story or gives a glimpse of a tale. Those glimpses bounce around in my head like torn apart film, ricocheting haphazardly through my mind, until they occasionally collide and begin to take a new shape with their own story to tell. More than once I had developed those new stories to a point where I felt I knew the characters, but I never wrote anything down. Instead I would tell my younger brother (a film student) about them and he would add them to his notebook of ideas.

With my latest idea (inspired by “Would You Love a Monsterman?” by Lordi) I decided to start my own notebook of ideas so that I could try and purge my mind of some of these ideas. Now I’m approximately 80% through the first draft of anything I have ever written and I have fallen in love with writing. I joined this forum to get some guidance on how to write things and have found an invaluable resource. I hope to continue writing and contributing to the forums for as long as I can. Thank you for providing us all with such a great place. :D

    1. I write whenever something inspires me to write, it could be something as simple as something makes me angry or something is said a certain way to peak my interest.
    2. I write because it soothes my constantly stressed mind and makes me have a sense of pride that my writing has been completed.
    3. Really anything and everything it’s just when the mood comes over me to write it makes me feel at peace. Among other reasons that I would rather not discuss in open forum like this
    4. I decided when someone would read what I wrote and beg me to write more because they would think my writing was amazing, it gave me such a sense of pride that I wanted to write more just to feel that pride once more
    5. I mostly right dark and suspenseful, that’s always been my style, but I will always throw twists and turns when people least expect them, I try to make the what I write so suspenseful that the reader can’t put what I have written down.

I really enjoy creating characters, worlds, and telling stories. Probably a cliche, but that's it really.

I write historical non-fiction articles (on Carthage mainly and mostly to do with the Punic Wars), and science-fiction.

    I need communicate.

Writing is second nature to me because from the very beginning when I read every book in my primary school I have always been compelled to read books (not always with as much discernment as i would like).

Inspired by my own experiences, interests and other writers of course. The magical realism of Angela Carter and Mervyn Peake were particularly important to me as a teenager and they have continued to resonate with me as an adult showing how amazing the human imagination is and what worlds we can create.

I have been percolating ideas for years and because I never hoped to be anywhere near as good as my favourite writers I rarely acted on those ideas just jottings and notes nothing fully formed. With maturity and having children I have become less egocentric and more willing to open myself up to the possibility of writing regardless of how good or ill the results. I am so glad I have as the process is joyful, infuriating, challenging and very worthwhile.

I write (so far) what I imagine would be classified as Urban fantasy - as there is a contemporary setting and a touch of magic.

I've probably already done this before, so if I have, I've probably changed up my answers quite a bit from the last time. :)

    What compells you to write?

    An idea, of course.

    Why do you write?
I write because if I didn't my head would become too cluttered with people and information. Some of them have to die at some point, you know?

What makes you write what you write?
If I keep thinking about the things I do it'll make me more paranoid than I already am, so I figured if I'm scaring myself, why not scare other people, too.

What made you decide you liked to write?
English class. From way back when, when we wrote things in a little journal, or had a prompt that we had to write about. Those were the fun days.

    What Do You Write?
Urban fantasy, paranormal, thrillers, and horror.

What compells you to write? Writing is just a part of who I am and I don't question it or think about it much.

Why do you write? Because it's fun and I enjoy it.

What makes you write what you write? It depends on my mood. Sometimes I'll write brainless fan-fic because it's fun (and not something I share, it's just for me).

What Made you decide you liked to write? I don't think it was any one thing, except maybe the escapism writing can bring. It's fun to create your own world and the people that inhabit it.

What Do You Write? A lot of fantasy/sci fi with some chick lit thrown in.

    What compels you to write?
It's quite simple for me, really. Reading has always brought me immense amounts of joy and marvel ever since the childhood stories I read back when I was about four, up to the more elaborate pieces I enjoy nowadays. Naturally I want to join in and convey my mind to the world in an attempt to return the favour. A more direct and simplified answer would be the unlimited motivation I collect from my ever so fastidious fiancé, who fervently convinces me that I actually do have something wonderful to tell.

    Why do you write?
Because reading is in many ways an ultimate experience, in my own opinion (but I guess that's the same for many here). Writing is also an alluring challenge, overwhelming at times, with a high risk of failure but one that gives you an almost euphoric satisfaction when you actually do succeed. It is an addiction of sorts.

What makes you write what you write?
My choice of genre was obvious since I've always been interested in fantasy, sci-fi, post-apocalypse and so forth. My choice of style is actually a weird sort of reaction to a kind of absence of it in these particular genres and sub-genres.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
My English teacher, a thousand thanks to her. She made me believe there actually was a future for me as a writer and was the first one to notice I had any talent at it at all. At the time that kind of praise was huge for me, since English isn't my native language. Now when I'm a few years older I wonder if she was being sincere or just was bored with the other students (most of them loathed English class), but I am still grateful.

    What Do You Write?
Mostly something fitting to the three categories I mentioned above, sci-fi, fantasy and post-apocalypse, but without the need for ridiculous clichés, black-and-white division and a more down-to-earth and psychological approach... Ah well, I find it kind of hard to describe my style, since it hasn't really settled to anything concise just yet. But that's the best description I can give you just now.

    1. My brain naturally produces characters and, much like with characters in books I read, I really want to know what happens to them. I have to write it down otherwise I get stuck on the same little part of their lives. Writing it down lets me move forward and find out what happens next.

    2. As above, I want to know what happens to my characters. It's pretty much the same reason I read. Except, with writing, I also get to share these new stories which is an added bonus.

    3. They're the kind of stories I enjoy reading (or would enjoy if I could find more of them) - fantasy that's serious and makes cogent observations about the nature of people and society in the same way that really good sci-fi sometimes does (or, at least, that's what I want to write...).

    4. Um, I enjoy it... More seriously, a story really coming together just makes me feel good and seeing other people enjoying said story makes me feel really good.

    5. Mostly fantasy with a bent towards themes of politics and human nature (in all its plurality).

    Writers write.

So, I write. It doesn't matter what it is or what it's about. I've been writing since I learned to write and will likely be writing long after senility has claimed any ability for me to make sense. Of course, it could be argued that has already begun. ;)

Extract from my memoir. I am seven. Title of short piece: Longhand Scribble
I’m lying on the floor with my special composition book—the one that’s not for school. It’s all mine. I begged Poppa to let me have an extra one so I could write my stories. I give the first page a title and then carefully begin to write along the ruled lines.
When I’m finished, I show Momma my first masterpiece. It’s a story about the day my sister and I went to see Gene Krupa at the American Museum of Natural History. The story also talks about drums from all over the world and how Gene plays the music of the country on the drums.
“Go on, Momma, read it,” I urge.
    “Who can read longhand scribble?”
“Me,” I reply. “I’ll read it to you.”
“Sit at the table and read. I’ll cook.”
I read my story, and when I’m done, Momma says, “That’s wonderful. You should write more stories.” She kisses my cheek. “You’re so smart, my little one.”
I read each new story to her as soon as it’s finished. One is about the old peddler who sells penny games from a small pushcart outside the schoolyard. There are also stories of Hebrew school and the old rabbi.
Then one afternoon, I finish my greatest story. I take it to Momma and say, “Momma, read this one.”
Again Momma says, “Who can read what you write? You read it.”
“But I wrote it in block letters so you could read it to me,” I insist.
She looks at the page and reads aloud, “I love you.”
    “And I love you, Momma.”
    End
At 79, I still write. I have no reason other than that's what I do.

    What compells you to write?
    My dreams and ideas.
    Why do you write?
I write to tell the stories my imagination comes up with. I also write to inspire others who have the talent and don't use it, because they think they're ideas are to out there for the public
What makes you write what you write?
I write whatever comes to me, whenever it comes to me. I t doesn't matter what it is if it sticks in my mind I write about it.
What Made you decide you liked to write?
I don't really know. All my life I read books by authors who write what comes to them no matter what the public thought, and I always noticed how happy they were because of what they wrote. I always wanted that, but I know that you have to absolutly love it and at times I do love writing, other times I'd rather have no more ideas. I always decide that I should keep writing because if I don't nobody will ever know my stories.
    What Do You Write?
Mostly I write on this blog http://nutballstuff.blogspot.ca/, I just started it though so it doesn't have many posts. Before that I started a novel but I haven't yet finished even though I've decided how it ends. I have also written a couple short stories that range in many genres. I also write what they tell me to in school, but I usually feed them full of crap because I find it funny.

    1. What compells you to write?

Whenever I have a buzz of ideas in my head all I want to do is start writing. Inspiration comes in all sorts of forms. For example visiting an old church or any stimulating location normally makes me think about crazy adventures that could happen there.

    2. Why do you write?

Mainly because of the escapism. Let's face it; real life can be boring, but in a story anything can happen...

    3. What makes you write what you write?

I'm mostly influenced by whatever I'm reading, which is usually Sci Fi novels. When I read a book I often look out for interesting descriptive techniques or plot twists that the author uses. I can then include simular techniques when I write my own work. Sometimes ideas can come from other places too, such as things I've seen on TV or read in a newspaper etc.

    4. What Made you decide you liked to write?

Seeing my mad scatter of thoughts and ideas neatly organised in sentences and paragraghs on page gave me huge satisfaction, I suppose because it helps me to understand myself a bit more and make sense of how my mind works.

    5. What Do You Write?

I don't think of myself as a writer of any particular genre. I right short stories and novellas that contain elements of Sci Fi, Action, Romance, Mystery, and sometimes a little bit of Comedy - basically anything I am passionate about. To do good writing, I have to put a lot of emotion and enthusiasm into my work. If I can't do this then I don't bother writing it.
