I know this is a bit of a niche field of knowledge, but I need to create a feeling of closeness among a fictional royal family in the 18th century. Does anyone know how someone would show affection (main protagonist is 16, if that helps) while still maintaining formality as befits their station?
A firm fedora tip followed by a "M'lady." Seriously though, what country is the setting for this story? Is it in England, France, etc.? I'm guessing that would influence the display of affection.
It's in a fictional country on the border between France and Italy, and takes influences from both. It's rather small and insignificant in world affairs, though. And I think you mean "tricorne"!
Then perhaps you would want to include a bisou or bisec (where each party kisses the other on both cheeks). That gesture can be used for friends, family, or love interests.
