Here is a point I believe: I distrust plot for two reasons: first, because our lives are largely plot-less, even when you add in all our reasonable precautions and careful planning; and second, because I believe plotting and the spontaneity of real creation aren’t compatible. S.K.
That doesn't ring true to me at all. Looking back at my life I can clearly identify dozens, if not hundreds, of legitimate plot lines.
I agree that there are plots to much of our lives, but also... do we want our writing to exactly mirror real life? We're just recording, or mirroring, not creating? That doesn't sound like what you think, given your second objection to plotting, so...?
Presumably you were quoting it because you either believe it or feel it contributes to the conversation somehow? So... how do you think it contributes to the conversation?
Ah ha...Busted I do believe. I guess because I like Michener and Clavell and I can't seem to find one in my own book which is more like a biography then a plotted story. I mean to say a book about nothing.
Wiki: The seven basic plots: I would say overcoming the monster isn't "nothing". It might be quite basic with Ghostbusters. And that's especially true with some of the movies that are all about the CGI or other fantastic visuals.
