I recently got a review that changed a bunch of capitalization of words I thought were correct. Here they are.. page 15, sentence 8: "French church" should be "French Church" -page 16, sentence 5: "the church" should be "the Church" -page 16, sentence 6: "the church" should be "the Church" -page 23, sentence 1: grammatical error "for" should be "from" -page 31, sentence 4: "the church" should be "the Church" -page 31, sentence 9: "the church" should be "the Church" What say you?
Probably have to see it in context, but I don't see any reason to capitalize 'church' in most situations.
The for/from question has no context at all so that one is unanswerable, but church should be capitalized, even when it's on its own, when it refers to a specific institution. My church is on the corner of Maple and Vine. I don't go to church. The Church of England is a revered institution. The Church has done many good things for the people of the U.K.
Thanks, I just felt me being captive in my dungeon has skewed my thinking. I googled it and that confirms it. This is the same bunch that thought I misspelled insane when my character said that’s so inane. Capitalize the word Church only if it is part of the denomination's formal name. ... Church / church Capitalize when referring to the universal body of believers, and in the official name of a church or denomination.
I don’t think you should have to capitalize church unless it’s part of a proper noun. Ie; The Church of Christ or The Church of England, compared to ‘the church down the street’ or ‘the church where my parents got married.’
