Style A Funny Thing Happened Today

Discussion in 'General Writing' started by Antaus, Mar 14, 2021.

With the stories that I write I've learned to drop hints in order to keep readers interested, like for instance mentioning some sort of secret project without giving any details. A good way to keep the reader curious. A perfect example is in this story I'm writing, a futuristic tech setting, someone mentions deploying project Daedalus to deal with a group of rebels. Someone else comments that using Daedalus against the rebels would be like swatting a fly with a bazooka. All sorts of hints without saying outright what it is. There's a reason for this too.

I still haven't figured out exactly what the f**k Daedalus is yet. o_O

To make sense, it would have to do with flight, given the original myth. Maybe something that flies near the sun and grabs some of its energy for warlike purposes.

Do what J.J. Abrams does and never explain it.
