I have a question/riddle that's been bugging me. Can you scholarly folk answer it? Here it is: If a jimmy is rustled and no is there to feel it, does it make a sound?
Isn't 'rustled jimmies' equivalent to 'panties in a bunch' or 'knickers in a twist?' Basically, annoyed or bothered? Anyway, as a meme, I find it rather elementary.
Define a "jimmy" in this context. I looked at the link, but it doesn't tell me what a jimmy is. So how can I answer whether it makes a sound or not?
Jimmies, inherently, are quiet items. It takes more than a mere rustle to evince a sound that a human ear would considered appreciable, I would hazard, even detectable. More vigorous activity can evince sounds that many of use are lucky enough to find familiar. But a mere rustling? I think the question becomes moot. "Does a thing that makes no sound even in the presence of someone capable of detecting sound still make a sound when there is no one there to detect it?"
Oh, I wasn't suggesting you didn't know what it meant, it's just that I saw it laid out like that—it's not a term I'm familiar with— as Wrey says, it all became kinda moot. In all honesty, I'm not even sure why you asked. Strikes me it's not meant to be pondered upon with any degree of seriousness.
Don't worry folks, it's meant to be a joke. Also, a Jimmy is an emotion, an emotion that can be "rustled." If your jimmies are rustled it means you have been disturbed by something.
