Dagolas stepped closer to the water, trying to see what moved under the surface. Ripples moved toward the shore, and something crawled into the bushes beside the water -- a dark, hunkering silhouette, part human and part...something else.
Dagolas pressed himself back against the trunk of a tree, trying to blend into the shadows. The creature stopped and sniffed the air. Had it seen him? Heard him? Smelt him?
