    Alien disguise problem...

Discussion in 'Plot Development' started by takadote26, Feb 14, 2015.

I have this alien character whose real form is a plant-based lifeform from planet Venus in the near distant future, but I have trouble explaining how and describing what by which she actually controls her own humanoid disguise. I actually was going for the skin-suit option, but that has been way too overdone.

The other options are the body is a puppet, artificial body and using a (possessed) living human which would way be trickier to explain. Or even using a human's discarded corpse as a puppet.

I voted for 'puppet.' I was thinking maybe the alien didn't built it perfectly and has trouble operating it.

I went with puppet. Has the best comedic value.

I think the artificial body might work, like The Body Snatchers. The Thing uses possession.

Can you clarify what you mean by artificial body, exactly, I haven't watched Invasion of the Body Snatchers yet... The Thing movie I have yet to watch either. The puppet would be a bit of a clunky idea, but the infested human might be a really dark twist... The alien is a flower-like alien with red petals, who disguises itself as a green-haired teenaged girl.

In the body snatchers the aliens are plants and they grow their artificial bodies from seed pods. When the pods open, there is a copy of a human inside. When people fall asleep, the seed pod grown human replaces the real one.

Ah, I see... Might consider that, or we can talk about the other options as well before I finally decide...

PS: how do I edit my own poll?

If you can still edit your post, the 'edit poll' option is at the top right hand corner of the poll.

I'm afraid I can't edit my post or my poll...

In the meantime, what do you think of the other options I mentioned earlier?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by infested human. The word infested implies lots of aliens hitching a lift on one human body, which could be quite cool, but I think you mean something else.

I went with possessed. Have you heard of the game "The Last of Us?" It's a zombie apocalypse setting, but the infection is a fungus that takes control of human bodies - it's inspired by real life fungi in south american rainforests that actually do this to ants. Creepy stuff.

Its because you're a new member - once you've been here two weeks and had twenty posts you'll be able to edit after posting (New members can only edit for the first fifteen minutes after a post is live... its an anti spam thing to stop a spammer posting an innocent post then coming back after its passed by the filter and editing it to be options buy Viagra, buy Viagra, or Buy Viagra)

In the meantime if you message me with the alterations you'd like, as a moderator I have access to change them for you

(Edit scratch that I just noticed the age of this thread... no idea why it was at the top of the board)

I was on the edge between possessed human and infested human, but I guess I would say using a human as a host would be my choice. I love that concept. I saw it used in Star Trek such as Star Trek Deep Space Nine with the Trill. Stephanie Meyer’s the Host was another example. I know of at least another example, but I love it and use it in my stories.
