Just received word that the Cape Breton writer Alistair MacLeod, author of the award-winning novel No Great Mischief, has died ...apparently today, Easter Sunday. That was the only novel he ever wrote, but it's a cracker. I had the good fortune to hear him read from some of his short stories and his novel at the Ullapool Book Festival several years ago, and also attend his writing workshop at the event. A great Canadian author of Scots descent. RIP, Mr MacLeod. http://arts.nationalpost.com/2014/04/24/remembering-alistair-macleod/
Hmm, the name sounds very familiar. I know I've definitely heard of him; I just can't remember from where. Perhaps I read a short story of his once. Anyway, it seems like he was respected by critics and readers alike, so we definitely lost a great writer. RIP.
Noooo! I was just contemplating buying that book in Chapter's today. Should I go for No Great Mischief or Island? In any case, The Boat was a great short story.
