Hi Everyone! I'm new to the forums. I've never actually joined any writing forum before so I'm new to the whole experience. Well, my name is Crystal and I've been an active writer since I was 11. Of course at that age I only wrote sappy diary entries about my day and who I was crushing on. When I was around 15 I started writing fantasy stories and I never looked back. I've never had anything published, but I've had lots of teachers and professors praise me on the work I have done in class. A few even told me they would help me get some of my work published, but it was all false hope. Once the semester ended, so did the dream of seeing my name in published work. All my stories are fantasy based fiction. I have a lot of stories going at once and a few finished works that I'm always editing. Once I get used to the mechanics of the site and get to know people maybe I'll post some work Ok, I think I wrote too much. If you have any questions or anything feel free to ask, because I'm sure I'll be asking a bunch!
Hello Crystal, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Welcome to the family, we hope you enjoy the many experiences you are likely to gain here. We are open minded and honest here, and we appreciate that in all whom join. Please, mingle in our lounge, or hit the local hot spot, Raven's Tavern. Just don't forget to sample some of the many wonderful pieces posted to the site every day, and to learn from others' mistakes for the Mods are ever vigilant. May your words flow, and your keys never strike back.
