    Greeting from Darkkin, the Tedious

    Greetings from Darkkin, the Tedious

Hello to one and all. Whoops! Forgot to add the s to greetings in the thread title. Off to a brilliant start here. I'm Darkkin, a weaver of tales and legends for as long as I can remember. Words are my passion and my refuge. Diagnosed with severe cardiac issues five years ago brought my hey-go-mad world to a screaming halt. To say I was angry is an understatement, three heart attacks and seven stints before the age of 28 is enough to make anyone crabby. A freak genetic mutation, coupled with structural abnormalities proved devastating. Always an athlete, whether it was swimming, biking, or just rambling with my dogs I was always on the move. I was the invincible one, always ready for the next adventure. It was a hard hit when I learned I was actually breakable. I saw it as a weakness and wanted to deny the truth, but there was no getting around it, just learning how to live with it. Borrowing a page from Master Yoda, I had unlearn what I had learned. I traded my bike and goggles for my computer and a giant yoga ball, (I needed some way to channel my ADHD...).

No longer able to do what I wanted, with limits on just about everything, I retreated from the world into my books and schooling. I now hold degrees in English and Creative Writing. I've come to terms that life for me will never be normal, but I have a routine down that works, leaving ample time for my writing projects. Those projects are numerous and massively complex, from the Chronicles of the Elshiki to my current endeavors with the Darkkin Chronicles to two poetry collections. I've learned to deal with life a day at a time and to enjoy the little things, the breeze through a tree or just the play of clouds across the sky. Through my writing, my characters and their worlds I have managed to find a balance in my own life when it was so badly skewed. It gave me a place to go when no one knew or understood what I was facing or feeling. My characters became my voice, each battle they fought was my own. Thus the epic saga of the Elshiki was born. The Elshiki are the root of my collections, the source and ancestors of the Darkkin.

The Darkkin Chronicles, a culmination of everything I have learned and loved in literature. Shapeshifters in a world, not their own, fighting to restore balance. Struggling against an ancient evil know only as the Dark, the Darkkin are seeking the pieces of two lost relics, the Mask of Shadows and the Echo Shard. Set during the time of the Napoleonic Wars, the Darkkin only have until June 18th, 1815 to recover the broken artifacts. If they fail the world will fall into shadow, the Dark, in power until the end of days. This series is my heart and soul; it is why I write. Simply for the sheer joy of it. With my words I can go where ever I please, do what I want with no one to gainsay me. It has given me back a part of me, I had thought lost.

Some might wonder at the Tedious on the end of my name. Not without a sense of humour, I adopted the soubriquet Darkkin, the Tedious, when on another board a poster went after me, calling my work tedious. My writing has been called many things form intriguing to a spectacular mess to just plain horrendous, but never tedious...My characters don't sit still long enough for anything to become tedious...(Oh, shiny object.) I have been Darkkin, the Tedious ever since.

    Welcome to Writing Forums, Darkkin!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirments. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.
