I've accidentally caught a few minutes of some 'Let's Make a Deal' reruns from 2019 year. (I know, but when I'm having lunch, it's lame game shows, news loops or the same 50 best moments in sport I've been shown for three frickin' months!) S'anyways, there's this couple dressed up as toothpaste and a brush or whatever, and they've just won an array of overpriced camping equipment they don't particularly want, so they take a chance on The Envelope. It's a first class, all-inclusive cruise!! Celebrate Valentine's Day aboard the magnificent Princess Majestica, sailing from Miami, visitings exotic ports of call along the way and culminating in a week-long stay at the luxurious Astoria Hotel in Rio de Janeiro! !!! Aren't you glad you're not them?
Not retroactively, they can't! When they picked up the tickets, bouncing up and down for joy, they didn't know. Nobody knew. It's just one of those situations where hindsight compensates for a disappointment of the past. One personal example: I'm so glad the first person I was madly in love with didn't want to marry me and the first company i applied to didn't hire me.
I don't understand your question. My topic is: if you avoided a misfortune, or gained some benefit, because someone else got what you wanted at the time - aren't you glad you're not the people you envied?
I'm so glad I'm not the rockstar I wanted to be when I was a kid. All those millions of pounds in royalties, those drugs, the sex with groupies, that hideously huge mansion, jacuzzi bathtub, and the chauffeur-driven car. HAH!... I'm so glad I'm not those rockstars I envy ... Wait, where's the facepalm emoji?
