    Anyone got a Green Thumb?

Discussion in 'Research' started by J.T. Woody, Sep 9, 2019.

I have an African Violet. I can pull a leaf off of it and that leaf will take root and grow a whole new violet bush. I know not all plants do this; once you pull something off the main plant, that something dies.

Whenever I search, i just get types of plants that do this.... mint, camelias, violets, etc.

but what do you call plants like my violet? is there a scientific name for this group?

Many succulents do the same. I pull leaves of my succulents to spread my garden quite often.

I'm not familiar with any name for species that can do this.

The act itself is called propagating, though informally most people would just say "I grew this plant from cuttings."
