Anyone Have a 10 page Business Document?

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Andrae Smith, Nov 10, 2015.

    Hi all!

I know I've been away for a while, but hopefully there are some here who remember me. I am in a bit of a bind. In my Technical editing class, my final project is to perform a comprehensive edit on a technical/business/workplace (i.e. non-creative) document with at least 10 pages (of single spaced text) for a real client. I have to have something asap to propose to my professor and begin wotk on. If anyone here has anything like that please let me know.

I know this website is not about school work, but I think this might be a little fair because I just need someone who can spare a document. o_O

    Thanks to anyone who answers!

    Andrae!

That's going to be pretty difficult to find, and even if someone has one, I would think it would be against company policy to distribute such a document to someone outside the company.

What kind of business document is ten pages long?

It might be something like you have written for your consulting job. Maybe something along the lines of guidelines on how to deal with criminals who have communicable diseases and the proper way to deal with someone that is bleeding.

Never mind, guys. I was able to convince my apartment complex to let me use one of their training guides. The reason I asked here is because they were originally against distributing company documents, as mentioned above. Even Walmart, where I work, could not really provide me with anything in a timely manner because they didn't have time to see what was available - if anything. :p I appreciate you guys responding though!

Glad you found something, I knew it was not going to be easy due to the standard practices of companies having non-disclosure on their in house communications.

Policies aren't 10 pages long but if you put several together you could get 10 pages. My work proposal is only 7 and 2 pages are simply price lists.

One thing I also found interesting is how many businesses have in-house writer/editors, or rather, train/expect their people to produce certain content. Even my old apartment complex, which was smaller and less professionally staffed received it's content from a home office.

It was also neat seeing how few "regular" places need to produce documents of that length. That is, if I really wanted to edit for Walmart, I would not look for work at the store level, especially knowing the concise communication style we use regularly. I'd have to find an organization that regularly produces such content.

Most of our (the company I work for) policies are 5-10 pages. We have policy statements that are only one pagers, but the policies behind them are extensive.

I get the joy of editing them once a year...

Anyway, @Andrae Smith, I'd have helped you out. Let me know if you have a similar problem in the future :)

Curious about the field you refer to. The policy manuals in hospitals are 3 inch binder thick, but the individual policies are a page or two.

Hey, I know it's been a while, but I could really use one of those documents if you still have anything available. Same terms: 8-10 pages of content, workplace related. If you or anybody else here has anything they can spare please let me know as soon as you can. Thanks!

Use a manual. Think of a piece of equipment, think of the manufacturer, and then find their site. They will have, provide pdf versions of the user manuals for all their products. Start simple with a piece of electronics say - if you don't want to use a 'manual' you will discover on these same websites other dry, unread industry discussion docs sat alongside - for you to peruse, adapt, submit to professors.

Thinking four stage air-conditioning units for farmers, real turgid stuff, eh.

...or audio systems, PA for major venues...

Good idea! Don't know why I didn't think of that.
