Are there any word processors that do this?

Discussion in 'Writing Software and Hardware' started by naruzeldamaster, Dec 18, 2021.

So I've tried a few word processors (Grammarly, Microsoft word, open office etc) but outside of hiring a human to proofread. I keep encountering the same problem in the low cost/free programs.

I know they're only computer programs, and AI can only do so much. But is there ANY program that checks the full sentence for context?

Like I've had MW 'correct' me for using the word 'rot' (the sentence was "You'll be dust before I rot away in this prison.") and suggested 'got'. Stand alone the suggestion for 'got' makes sense, but when you read the whole sentence that suggestion makes no sense.

Nope. Certainly not ones capable of editing any sort of expression of art. Just do What I did and turn all that crap off!

You'll be telling people not to use Clippit next.

I mean MW kind of checks the whole sentence.
When it corrected me on 'rot' my sentence contained the phrase 'I Rot Away' probably thinking I meant 'I got away'
It probably assumed that I meant 'got' but if it had checked the whole sentence 'You'd be dust before I rot away in this prison' it should be able to make a better suggestion.

I couldn't, I've never used it. But let's be honest, those automated editing tools just plain suck.

Try ProWriting Aid? It comes fairly close and better than Grammarly.
