    Norse Mythology

Discussion in 'Research' started by Kratos, May 19, 2008.

Does anyone have a good site for info about Norse Mythology (Ragnarok and Yggdrasil and all that) other than Wikipedia?

    Thanks in advance.

Google Encyclopedia Mythica and troll it for the Norse link... after that, I don't know.

I have a keen interest in Scandinavian and Celtic mythology, and studied it quite extensively some years back. Some sites that should help you are:

About.com (This site is full of links).

    Runes: Alphabet of Mystery

You might want to check out the Prose Edda and Poetic Edda if you want the mythology essentially from the source. Good stuff. Ragnarok actually comes first in the Poetic Edda, strangely enough.
Also, I've found that Timeless Myths http://www.timelessmyths.com/norse/index.html is pretty solid.

Check out a book--they're easier than websites in my experiance to just browse.

That said, Viking Answer Lady has info not only on Norse Mythology but also Norse law, custom, and other fun.

For all myths sacred-texts is a free site that publishes free versions of different texts, such as the Edda.

It is under icelandic on the left, but this is the direct link. The different versions of the Edda are on top.

    Here is an interesting link

It may be an old cliche but get down your local library. Our University library has shelves and shelves of Norse, Icelandic, Scandinavian mythology and epic sagas etc.

It might solve your problem :)
