I did Track and Field for 11 years. No one I meet really watches/understands/cares about track. I dont really know much about other sports tbh. So I don't talk about sports lol. I love watching cross country skiing, downhill skiing, gymnastics, speed skating, ice skating and competitive marathons, but I couldnt tell you the rules (for gymnastics, skiing, and ice skating)
I'd be willing to discuss American Football, Golf and Tennis. I love to play darts but have not in quite a while (and I know nothing about the professional circuit)
I prefer the Rams, but if you don't know who is in the Superbowl why would I want to discuss it with you?
Wrong thread. [Heh] When are the youngsters going to depose those tennis geriatrics? Honestly, I have read many websites on the issue, something about having all the money. ... I do miss amateur sport, very much so. Like an age-old narrative has been simply taken away, denied to us all the pleasure of the plucky underdog with an illness for running Now it is only the 'Mom and Dad said practice every single breath of my life. And here I am at 22, it feels amazing. I love my playstation.' 'Zzzzzzz...' .. The Olympics are gross. Cricket gone to SKY TV - hence an entire generation oblivious to cricket. Rugby went steroid. Football, darts and snooker - possibly if I found myself abandoned in a Milton Keynes pond. NFL - if/when I was deported? Cage fighting/boxing - good. Ice skating - secret fetish. Surfing - upon a time, once. Porn - never.
Did I say I have to be the one who discusses it? Im happy to read others discussing sports I know little about. Surely there must be a lot of you wanting to talk about the Super Bowel.
Dear @Aspie. I have watched approximately one hour of Finnish men swimming in snow, and ice paddling with inflatable unicorns. That is enough. God bless Finland. maybe you're not from Finland... I like the 'bad diving.'
Since you seem to be a Finland fan, I'll put this here. Jesse from Finland and Jomppa who have also been living years in our beautyful country are having a nice conversation about literary styles in their favorit genres. Jomppa is really Jomhod, but it does not sound as Finnis as Jomppa.
in that case: i once saw a girl blow out her knee (badly! i can still hear her screaming!) because a coach didnt cancel a track meet because of rain. See, rain is bad for field events as well as impedes the vision of the runners. Field events especially. Throwing implements slip, grass is wet, etc. But sand? when sand is wet, it feels like a concrete wall. jump pits are supposed to be raked, dry, and kept as soft as possible (i had a coach import white sand from the Bahamas because it was the softest). Anyway, sand was wet, the first jumper jumped and landed and everyone heard the pop, then her screaming in agony in the sand. needless to say, we all got to go home early that day. well, the girl had to go to the ER, but still.
running isnt fun in the rain. I lost a shoe during a race once. I was coming up on first place, my socks were wet and my shoe just flew off. The camera person zoomed in on it and kept doing a replay on the jumbo screen. I was mortified. the assistant coach, after the race, ran out on the track and held up the shoe, jumping up and down laughing also, makes sweat run down in your eyes faster. cools your body down faster when you are half naked and need to stay warm. and girls with long hair/pony tails, hurt when they pass you up and their pony tail slaps you across the face
i was a sprinter in my teenage years. but i discovered school champion doesnt mean you are any good at all. i went to a pretty small high school. 400 metres was an absolute gut buster. i preferred 200 . and middle distance was horrific too. also cross country. iremember trying to stay with these runners in the first 200 of a cross country. Man. slow down. we got a long way to go yet!
I went to a pretty big middle school. started running in 7th grade and was the fastest girl on my team. ran all the sprints, and was an alternate for the 400. wasnt my best sprint. 8th grade coach tried me at long jump. I didnt know what the heck I was doing. he just said "your fast, just run and jump" so I did. I liked track so much, I joined a summer team and was one of 4 girls on my summer team to make it to the Junior Olympics. we all bombed, haha! nerves! we were in this college sized stadium with EVERYONE watching and it was terrifying. none of the girls in my region did well. high school, i had 2 knee surgeries, still a top sprinter, but not the best on my team but I was good enough to get into college on a track and field scholarship. beat out one of the seniors for her spot on the relay too. I can brag about it all now that its over, haha! but doing it all, you dont think much about it. you just want to keep getting better. at least with me, i was silently competitive. I kept my mouth shut during events, ignored those who goaded me and picked at me. as soon as you retaliate or show off, that would be the time you get disqualified or injured. cross country sucks, btw.
Rams of course. Does anyone outside of New England like the Patriots? Also, I'm a Pittsburgh Steelers fan so I'd like to see them remain the only 6 ring team.
I followed tennis pretty closely in my previous marriage. My current husband would be bored to tears watching a match, so, I have not been watching much. I like Joker. I understand he won the men's title at the Australia open. I don't know anything about Naomi Osaka. Even when I did watch tennis, I got tired of seeing Serena dominate. I did like Henin cause she was a tiny little thing and could beat Serena!
from what I read this morning he is destined to become the best player ever, surpassing Federer. He made Nadal look second rate in the final.
Breaking News: Australia's leading horse trainer arrested. I was shocked. This guy comes across on media as high integrity, humble and hard worker. Details to come but Im still in shock.
Racehorse names. Gotta love some of the names. And often the champions have the best ones. Secretariat---what a cool name Frankl- I loved Victor Frankl Black Caviar-classy name classy horse Bonecrusher- as he crushed his rivals He's no Pie eater- not a champion but won some good races. Hilarious name though the most underwhelming name Ive seen is Brown Chestnut. what a dull name ! But he was good!
There's a horse racing at the moment called The Gatting Ball. It's by Hard Spun out of Art Of Deception.
Richmond supporter here. Woohoo go tiges!! Looking forward to the 2019 season. Also looking forward to AFLW. Not looking forward to AFLX.
