When someone you know, such as a friend or family member that you care about, is going through a tough time in their lives, you don't have to have all the answers. Instead, merely listening is quite therapeutic for many people. I know that when I have the blues, I'm not always looking for others to give me answers. I sometimes find it better just to be able to express how I think and feel to someone who is good as a listener. Also, if someone finds you to be a good listener, it shows that person that you care. And that can really mean a lot to a person who wants to express themselves.
I agree. I get the feeling this relates to your thread about don't play as a therapist. But I must say, this is very true. Good listening skills are very important and a sign that someone cares.
