Beta Reading Beta Reader needed for YA LGBT romance novel

Discussion in 'Collaboration' started by Woodstock Writer, Feb 1, 2022.

    Hi,

I'm seeking beta readers for my £72k word novel, My Best Friend's Girlfriend. I've been working on it for about 4 years and this year I'm determined to do something with it other than continually editing it as I have been for the past few years.

The novel is the story of 17-year old Gemma, who has to decide between love and friendship when she falls for the girlfriend of her best friend, Richard. The situation is complicated by their mutual friend Becky's love for Richard, her ex, and when Becky finds out that something has happened between Gemma and Shannon, Gemma resorts to behaviour she is not proud of.

Trigger warning for self-harm, and there is also physical bullying.

Please let me know if you're interested. Thank you in advance!

I'm confused by your description. Who's Shannon? Who's the ex?

Sorry! Shannon is Richard’s girlfriend, and Becky is Richard’s ex.

    Hey Woodstock,
You still interested in having someone beta-read your story? I’m working on a lgbt-romance novel myself, so seems like we would fit well together genre-wise. Let me know if you’re interested. We could swap chapter per chapter feedback for example.

    Hey,

Yes please, and yes happy to swap feedback! I always feel like I’m rubbish at giving feedback but I read a lot of LGBT romances so surely I ought to be able to say something useful!

Hello, still looking for more? I have a LGBTQ romance of my own, but it is geared towards adults rather than YA, and it is also a fantasy so there are other plots involved than just the romance, so if this isn't of interest to you then I understand. Let me know if you're up for it.

Thanks for getting in touch :) I’ll leave it now though as I’m reading someone else’s novel whilst she’s reading mine and I don’t think I’ll have time for another one at the moment.
