    Bird Names?

Discussion in 'Character Development' started by LaPetitePierrot, Jan 3, 2011.

I'm currently writing a book in which many of the characters have avian themed names to match their personality. I'm got an extremely greedy and petty treasure hoarder named Jay as well as a crafty, quick-witted character with the last name Sparrows (along with a main antagonist whose last name is Falkner).

Right now I'm trying to find a suitable name for the main character... but I'm kind of at a loss. Any suggestions would be great!

What about Falcon, Hawk, MacCaw, Birdie, Linnet, Zohar (the falcon the socoress used in He-Man).

I find Eagle to be a nice name carrying the hint of a bold person. Raven and Hawk are nice names too. Nightingale makes for a nice last name, especially for a woman. Of course, there is also Phoenix.

What's the personality of your unnamed bird MC? This will help generate name ideas to suit the character, you know?

You say that many of your characters have avian names to match their personality, yet you haven't giving us a clue to your main characters personality, therefore how can you expect us to suggest a suitable name?

Well, explaining his personality fully would take pages and pages, and I'm not sure that would be too pleasant for you posters :p
And I'm not asking for suitable names, just suggestions. I'll choose a suitable one as I see fit.

If you want a starting point, I suppose I'll give a quick outline. He's a rather fierce desert bandit who mercilessly slaughters anyone who gets in his way. He had a deeply disturbed childhood as a pickpocket on the streets, and became a feared gangster of the city in which he lives. He is cunning, manipulative, and extremely obssessive; taking great measures to take revenge, etc.

Is he a desert bandit after an urban gangster, or before?

    Peregrine, Crow...perhaps.

Maybe Paun? Paun is actually a Croatian word for peacock.

Or Sokol? That is a Croatian word for Hawk.

Sokol sounds pretty cool. Has a bit of a east european-ish sound to it too, which fits well in my setting. Will definitely try that out!
