    song/poem quotes in the ms

Discussion in 'Revision and Editing' started by Tesoro, Sep 25, 2011.

Sometimes when you read books you see on the first page a quote from a songtext
or a poem before the actual novel starts.
I have this great songlyrics quote that i think perfectly suit my story
and I wonder if I should sent it along with the manuscript when I submit it or is it something that is added
only once you're ms has been approved and is ready to be printed?
Somebody out there who knows how these things work?

You will have to have written permission from the copyright owner before you can use the lyrics at all.

If you insist on doing this, I would leave it out of the manuscript, and then bring it up with the publisher (with proof of permission) when and if your manuscript is accepted.
