Already know about Harry Potter. I was thinking about incorporating unicorns into my story, but about a second after the idea hit me, I was like ...."unicorns? wtfbbqsauce?!" But the idea fits the story so much, I don't want to give up on it. I've made up my own unicorns now, but I'd like to look at some by other authors. However, I don't think I've ever actually heard about a book with unicorns other than HP. Especially not in my genre, which is historical-romantic-horror-fantasy. Yup, that's totally a genre that's gonna catch on. So any suggestions?
I believe in Unicorns, by Michael Morpurgo (his work is quite worth a look) The Black Unicorn, by Terry Brooks Series called Unicorn Chronicles, by Bruce Coville Zombies vs Unicorns is out in 2012, which sounds interesting to me (Holly Black and Justin Larbalestier) There was a series I read a few years ago, about a foundling who takes on the care of a unicorn and its foal, trying to get them to safety in a kingdom that persecutes unicorns, so that the unicorns went into hiding some years ago, and on their journey the foundling finds that she was one of the unicorns sent into hiding, hidden in human shape.
Summer Knight, by Jim Butcher features a Unicorn [a cameo appearance, sure, but a good book nonetheless]. The whole Dresden Files series is fantastic and highly recommended.
