    Drood, by Dan Simmons

Discussion in 'Discussion of Published Works' started by Steerpike, Jul 25, 2011.

I like Simmons a lot and am reading one of his older books.

Has anyone read Drood? It deals with events around Charles Dicken's unfinished last novel (not historical fiction, but speculative).

Wondering what people thought of it.

I want to know about this book as well. If memory serves me right, Guillermo del Toro will be doing a film adaptation in a couple of years.

i just finished it a little while ago and really liked it. there were only a few parts around the middle where the plot seems to get bogged down with all of the biographical details such as what is going on with the careers and families of the characters, but Simmons makes up for it with some very intense and gruesome scenes and plot twists.
i will definately read it again some time. it made me see Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins in a completely different light.
