Budding fiction and self help author

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Philsy, Aug 31, 2016.

    Hi

After a lifetime working in magazine publishing, I'm looking to moving into writing fiction and self help books.

I have written a short children's adventure story which is languishing on Smashwords and am actively working on my first self help book.

Hoping this forum will help my develop ideas and find outlets.

    Cheers

    Phil

    Welcome, Phil.

I just read your post about The Hurricane Method & replied to it.

Now reading this I'm wondering if one really good place for writers to start is with something we do naturally, on a daily basis so to speak. For instance, I used to have a daily devotional time. I would read something inspiring then write my thoughts about it. I've stopped doing that - it takes time & discipline (to do it every day). I should probably try that again. I'm new to this forum & also looking for ideas, etc.

Also read a little article about how running helps - I agree. I come up with some really cool ideas when I'm on my treadmill.

Anyway, welcome, and I wish you the best!

    Hi

Thank you for your kind welcome.

I'm not a runner but I do enjoy cycling and find that inspiring.

Best of luck with your ventures.

    Cheers

    Phil

Do you have an organising principle that underpins your advice?

Yes, I do. It's a work in progress at the moment so I don't want to say too much yet.
