Hi everyone, its that time of year again! July Camp NaNo starts in just over two weeks and I have set up a cabin Let me know if you are interested ... got two places already currently reserved so I have 7 to 8 places still remaining!
Camp NaNo is a side project to NaNoWriMo (a writing challenge that lasts from the 1st November to 30th November every year during which participants aim to write 50,000 words (the average length of a novel) in order to 'win'). The Camp NaNos (which are held every April and July of each year) are based on the NaNoWriMo challenge but vary slightly. With NaNoWriMo (in November) it is mostly a solitary task, though you can find 'writing buddies', whereas with the Camps you can be part of a virtual/online 'cabin' which is basically a group of 10 - 11 other writers doing the challenge alongside you for support and, if it works for you, competition. Also, for the November NaNo everyone receives the same set word count goal of 50,000 words, whereas with the Camps you can choose whatever word count goal you'd like from 100 words to 100,000 words (for example - this word count goal can also be altered up until the last week of the challenge). The only other difference is that with the November NaNo participants generally tend to write novels (since the word count goal is the average length of a novel) and NaNoWriMo even stands for 'National Novel Writing Month', however the Camps are more flexible regarding the genre of your projects so you are free to write a novel, poetry, short story collection, essay collection, school/college/university assignments, etc. Those are really the only three differences, to be honest. The length of the competition is still one month so this July Camp will run from 1st July to 31st July and you only need to reach the word count goal you set yourself in order to 'win'. It is really up to how your writing process works regarding which would be better suited for you. If you prefer some writerly support from like minded people and the freedom to choose your word count goal then I would recommend Camp NaNo's writing challenge style, otherwise if you prefer solitude and to attempt to write an entire novel in a month then NaNoWriMo would probably be better. I hope this helps (Taken and altered from the April 2017 Camp NaNo thread)
Thanks for the invite. I posted on the cabin as well, but I figure I'd check things out here. Welcome to anyone who wants to joins.
Count me in! If all goes well I'll have about 30k to write in July, and I could do with another form of external accountability. Spoiler Just to hide this from search bots - my username is AnnaKaling.
Awesome haha, I will send you over an invite now! ... just tried to send the invite ... have you set up a project yet on the Camp NaNo page? You'll need to do so before the invite can go through
I would like to join! I've set up my info. My username on the site is 'IsThisAGoodUsername'. I was mad at it cause it wasn't letting me pick one I liked.
Can I join as well. My username's StormShade. April's NaNo was a fucking disaster for me, barely managed to write anything. So I'm gonna need to redeem myself this time 'round, work my butt off to meet the word count.
Sure, it will be nice to have you join us again I'm sure you're not the only one who feels that way, I know I want to improve my progress this Camp NaNo as well!
Still have 1 - potentially 2 (still waiting to get a confirmation from someone who asked me to reserve them a place when I first set up the cabin) - spaces remaining! First come, first serve basis
I'm really keen to get writing this July so if you've got a space I'd love to join. I'm extremely rusty but full of enthusiasm! -My username is Kalorad
