Can I use images from interten into my book?

Discussion in 'Self-Publishing' started by gold, Jul 10, 2021.

    Hi
I have written a self-help book and I need 3-5 images. What legally can I use?
    Creative commons are accepted?
Free images from eg pexel are accepted?
Do I need to give credit to the creator or site? eg under image "image credit pexel.com" or "image credit Mihai The Brave Black Balls"
Can I print without problems the book if it has images from google under creative commons license?
Have you got far now bad experiences regarding this topic?

    Thanks a lot guys!

There is no easy answer, other than "It depends."

For example, you mentioned "creative commons," but that's an entire class of licenses and they are not all the same. To know exactly what you can do with an image under a creative commons license, you will have to find and read the license that is attached to that specific image.

    This may help you: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/

With regard to Pexels, it appears that you can use their images without paying user fees or royalties. Credits are optional. https://www.pexels.com/license/

Other sites, such as Shutterstock and Getty Images, offer royalty-free images, but you have to pay a one-time fee to purchase the right to use the image.
