Can't get to "Advertising a Book" post

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by BayView, Jul 7, 2018.

I thought maybe the post had been closed, but other people are posting on it, so...?

When I click the link I get "
Creative Writing Forums - Writing Help, Writing Workshops, & Writing Community - Error
The requested page could not be found."

And the Login button shows up at the top of the page as if I've been logged out. But when I click the button and log in again, I get another message about the page not being found.

    Huh?

Have you tried clearing your browser cache?

Nope, 'cause... I have no idea how to do that. And if I did it, would it erase all the logins for different sites? I don't know what most of my login information IS for most sites, so if my auto-logins go, I'm in trouble!

You should be alright as the logins are cookie based (which is different to page caching).

Browsers store (cache) pages to give you a faster performance. Sometimes, however, they cache
error pages and can serve them up.

And because the error is only showing up at your end, it suggests that the problem might be local.

If you don't mind me asking, what browser are you using?

There's a "clear browsing data" option...?

    That's the one, Bay.

    Follow that link.

    1. If you want to keep your browsing history, un-select that option
    2. Make sure 'cookies and other site data' is not selected
    3. Make sure 'cached images and files' is selected.
    4. Then press 'Clear data'

ETA: It might pay to delete all cached data from the last 24hrs

Okay, did it - still can't get to the thread.

I know there are private groups on the site, but this seems to be a general access thread...

Well, I've posted on that thread a couple of times to see if the issue occurs.
    It's working fine for me.

If you have another browser installed on your system, try using it to see of you get the same
    problem.

    Ah, good point.

Well, you could try accessing that forum without being logged in and see if the problem
    occurs.

Though I do recommend sorting out your pw situation lol

I use Firefox. I went to the sight and logged in with Microsoft Edge and I was able to view the thread just fine. Weird...

It's clearly a shunning. For... sins. I know what they are. Don't make me share them.

I agree with the above. Try another browser and see if you can access it (logged in or not).

I can't view it in Firefox even when I'm logged out, but I can view it in Edge whether I'm logged in or not.

I could see it in Firefox, Explorer and Opera, without signing in. And, frankly, it was a bit anticlimactic.

In terms of the larger problem? No idea. But I don't really need it solved, b/c I don't feel like I need to post in the thread. So... yay?

I don't have much of an interest in the thread either, I just find the whole situation to be a bit odd :p
