How to find an agent for a specific genre?

Discussion in 'Marketing' started by Turniphead, Oct 14, 2014.

    Hi there

Finished memoir, which has been edited by an editorial agency - they like it, but will only approach 2 agents on my behalf.

The site http://www.agenthunter.co.uk is pretty darn good. Are there other sites that list agents, and their preferences etc?

I need to find ones that like the genre. How do I know if the agent is any good, so I can approach them in the right order?

I have Writers Artists Hand book too.

Any databases for agents out there I may have missed?

    Many thanks for any advice.
Hope your writing is going good.

    Turniphead.

I used QueryTracker as a way to find out what agents represented my genre, then searched the agent names on the Absolute Write "Bewares, Recommendations and Background Checks" and at Preditors and Editors (just remember that they alphabetize by first name, so you have to remember to search differently).

I don't know if these would work as well if you want to stick with a UK agent, but they might.

If you get to the point where you've got an offer from an agent, you should feel free to contact some of the agent's other clients to ask how things are going - I've had people contact me to ask about my agent, and it's really not a big deal.

AgentQuery is one of the best sites out there.

FirstWriter allows you to search publishers and agents by genre and preferences.

Have you tried Writers & Poets. They are good too and few of the members here I saw referring it in other threads too.
