    Novel Chapter length and pacing

Discussion in 'Genre Discussions' started by Mckk, Dec 12, 2018.

I don't remember who or exactly which thread it was that I saw on here about chapter length and whether it's important. Anyway, I found an article on it that's actually pretty insightful and that actually uses published books as examples to analyse (giving both a generalised chapter length optimum and those books that broke the "rules" and won prizes).

The summary of the article is basically: adjust your chapter length according to the pacing of your story and vary it according to your purpose. It compares chapter length with the "beat" or "rhythm" of a whole book, which I found interesting.

Maybe some folks on here will find it helpful :)
