Here is the first attempt at my character, Sigma. I have since altered her significantly to appear more human. But is still amuses me as a first attempt: -

Yeah, I'm just not really an artist. I mostly doodle or do quick sketches

My big issue is I've dabbled in nearly all the creative arts, but am frustratingly uncommitted to a single medium or pursuit

Jack of all trades, master of none—that good for nothing type

And personally, probably just because I grew up with it.

I mean, it was actually my Caucasian friends got me into manga—but my mom had Pokemon and various series shipped over here for us in the states before it got popular, I myself was shipped off to my grandmother's often as a child as my sibling required constant medical attention & care and Obaachan had Japanese channel on 24/7, and of course my age range grew up with Cartoon Network/Toonami/Adult Swim airing the various Gundams, Trigun, Tenchi Muuyo, Rurouni Kenshin, et cetera and Kids WB airing Card Captor Sakura, and someone was airing Sailor Moon and so many others.

Between my casual exposure through my Japanese relations to the sudden rise in popularity among Americans my age, it just became a natural response to the stimulus

Hey it takes practice, and patience. It is not trash, it is more of honing the art.

This is purely personal, but I dislike anime... I find the exaggerated features... disturbing. I find the constant posing, rather than natural facial expressions... weird. Look at my character above, and it is angry, it is emphatically not looking pretty for the camera. I think that is what weirds me out most about anime- that everyone is posing and looking wide-eyed and pretty all the time- freakish.

I'm also a Jack-of-all btw, it is pretty much my job title. You are a talented artist, but like any skill, you need to work at it, and like any skill, you cannot necessarily do it from memory alone, you need a life model. Everything is there, just the poses are a little unnatural.

I have wondered this myself. It could be a variable that has yet to be mentioned.
I for one like to favor my own style over someone elses, but some have a different
    point of view.

Anime/manga are like films—you can find any genre and various styles if you're willing to search past the cookie-cutter popular megaseries.

But there is a little something to everything being beautiful—in Japanese culture, there is a strong focus on aesthetic perfection. Even the culinary arts—it doesn't matter how delicious it tastes, it needs to be beautiful to behold and presented like a work of art, with assortments of colours and shapes on various dishes, etc.

This focus on aestheticism bleeds into so many things, and so it becomes evident in anime too.

But there are some disturbing, hideous, gory, and just plain unattractive series and styles out there.

But just like how my best friend doesn't enjoy Bollywood films because of the singing & dancing (despite loving American musicals), you are entitled to dislike anime for any reason whatever.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love Japanese cinema... it has some of the most disturbing films I can remember ( I was halfway through that post and accidentally posted it, I truly can't be bothered finishing it. I hope that half finished sentence is as enlightening for you as it wasn't for me)

@Pinkymcfiddle you are misunderstanding what I was getting at.
I was implying that I prefer to use my own artistic style, instead
of another one. We shouldn't place blame on those who use a style
that is not their own. It just means that they are not comfortable
with their own style. But we can't impose standards when it comes
to personal style preference, they just choose to be inspired by
anothers. Music Influences the musician, and art is no different.
With the caveat that an artist will emulate, where the musician
    incorporates the influence.

@NoGoodNobu it is basically an argument of showing raw talent
over emulation. There is a difference between artistic personal style
and emulation. That is why he brings it up, that it is a style that
he does not like. An artist will openly show style, just like in their
writing. Style shows diversity and talent, over emulation of a well
established one. It takes far less time to learn how to recreate,
over independent expression. However, you do not need a subject
to model to create a portrait. But in short, and by guess, emulation
is not your true style and is seen as being lazy when you do have
your own true talent that you withhold.

I tried using a manga/anime style in fourth grade, needless to say it didn't work out too well... now, I'm trying to develop my own style, but it keeps changing. -_- just stay in one spot and get better with that, you dingleberry

No, no, I get you. You want to physically attack people who use other people's styles. You hate Manga and anyone who watches it.

You made that very clear. I'm not sure I agree, but each to their own.

Now that is presumptuous. I am merely trying to figure out why someone
copying is a form of flattery, and when it becomes meaningless on the grounds
that it is over saturated. I am not one to hate a style, but when it is done over
and over again by so many it loses its appeal.

It would be hypocritical for me to dislike anime/manga, when I am a fan of
a show that is in that style.

I have issue when it is being the overly popular art form, which makes it lose
its original luster due to everybody copying it. Originality counts for something
    does it not?

If anyone wants to physically harm others based on what they like or dislike on here, I'd be a little (lot) bit concerned... But from what I've read, no one wants to attack anyone else...

From what I've seen of Troll's posts, he's never suggested that he wants to attack anyone, but I guess I could be wrong. Either way, twisting someone's words and making it out like they want to physically assault someone is rude, at best. I mean, unless there's some joke going on here that I'm missing... :bigconfused:

@Pinkymcfiddle I did not mean to attack anyone, I am simply trying to share an opinion.
My intent is not to attack anyone, just trying to understand.

Synthetic biology and cybernetic law enforcer.
    image.jpg
Its skeleton is made of a carbon nanotube and steel composite. Carbon has a high enough melting point to allow molten metals to be poured into a nanotube lattice to create a composite material. The synthetic muscles are made of electroactive aerogels that can produce up to 30 times more mechanical force than muscles found in natural biology. Graphene is used in its electric power supply as supercapacitors and as a protective external coating. The frame is controlled by a genetically-engineered dog's brain, which is supported by a minimalist array of synthetic organs created with 3D-printed collagen.

Does it have a gun for a face, or a face shaped like a gun?

Black market cybernetics are very common. The baddies look very similar to these things as well.
