    Titles in Dialogue?

Discussion in 'Dialogue Development' started by JJ_Maxx, Feb 10, 2013.

    Trying to figure this out.

    Would this be correct?

From the way the it sounds, the book hasn't been officially titled, and if that is indeed the case, then it would be correct.

Book titles are one of the correct uses of italics.

"That's it!" he said. "I'll title my book How to Serve Humans!"

A short story title, on the other hand, is enclosed in double quotes. However, within dialogue it would be enclosed in single quotes.

"That's it!" he said. "I'll title my short story 'How to Serve Humans'!"

is this an homage to the classic twilight zone episode, 'to serve man'?

Naw. I used something similar to this in a recent short story, but I don't like to use the exact text when I ask usage questions, so I make ones up. ;)
