Not sure which is the right form

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by Lacyda, Jun 16, 2018.

Hey everyone, so I'm in the process of editing and I'm stuck on how exactly I should format a name/nickname.

My problem is that one of the character's name is Jack Ostrower. To the protagonist, he is her uncle. In the family he doesn't go by just Jack, he goes by uncle Jack.

My question is do I capitalize the word "uncle" because it's his nickname and is only referred to as Uncle Jack? Or does it have to be a minuscule letter?

If it's part of his name, even a nickname, it gets a capital. Like, the current queen (lower case) is Queen Elizabeth II (capital).
