Clarifying a pronoun's antecedent

    A company I used to work for hired out what they called generators.

    Bloody big diesel-driven things.

    Maybe technically the generator produces electricity by being rotated, and that's all it is. I think that common usage is that a generator comprises both the generating part of the machine and the diesel engine that rotates the generating part.

    When I Google "Generator Hire", the first hit is

    You guys write whatever you want. You are applying the battery power to a starter motor, that turns a diesel, that turns a generator, that will in turn return a charge to the battery. We are way past helping the OP and arguing to no point. Out.
