A company I used to work for hired out what they called generators. Bloody big diesel-driven things. Maybe technically the generator produces electricity by being rotated, and that's all it is. I think that common usage is that a generator comprises both the generating part of the machine and the diesel engine that rotates the generating part. You guys write whatever you want. You are applying the battery power to a starter motor, that turns a diesel, that turns a generator, that will in turn return a charge to the battery. We are way past helping the OP and arguing to no point. Out.
