    Collab writing, worldbuilding, etc.

Discussion in 'Collaboration' started by saxonslav, May 31, 2018.

How do you guys feel about collaborative writing? Is it better or worse for the end product? Does it compliment any particular genre?

For anyone who isn't aware, worldbuilding writing is just establishing the (aforementioned) world, setting, etc. of the story being written.

Its fun, especially for a fantasy or adventure type of book. But it really depends on the people participating. You'd be surprised how often two individuals who thought they had so much in common would all of a sudden head for different directions. And then you have to decide which way the story goes. So, if you are going to collaborate, choose wisely :-D. For best results, see a sample of their writing and ideas, so their tastes are at least a little bit predictable. Also, decide in advance which one of you is going to be in charge, in case you have to vote on where the story goes .

I took a class once where each week we all took a turn at witting a chapter in our collective novel. We brainstormed together somewhat. It was fun somewhat. But it really didn't lead to anything sellable or individually even useable. It was fun to do once, but it's not something I would do again.
