    Cops and Detectives

Discussion in 'Plot Development' started by Dr. Doctor, Apr 3, 2009.

How would a police officer go about becoming a detective instead?

    Thank you for your time.

edit: Did I really make this thread here or was it moved?

normally you can go up, but you have to take tests to achieve the rank of detective. its a hard one that many fail their first and sometimes second try.

before many police officers used to be hired with just highschool education and they would have to take nightschool or such to achieve the degrees they needed. now most officers have some uni/college training but still need the additional testing within the department.

There is no "instead" unless you are talking about a private detective. Private detectives in the United States (most jurisdictions? all?) have to pass a license examination, and must also apprentice for some period of time before they can be licensed.

depends on the country i guess, my buddy became a detective in the police force by taking an exam within the department. but if it is a P.I. then you just leave the force and do the license.
