    Cover Feedback

Discussion in 'Cover Design' started by Cybernorm, Dec 11, 2020.

    Hi, please rate my cover.

    Book title
    VERMIN WIPEOUT: Alkaid

// Please take a look before reading the description.

I would love to hear some feedback from other creators. What do u think is the genre? Would u read the description? As a fan of the genre, would u want to know more about the book?

    Book description
Shoot 'em ups: A fighter jet is zipping across an alien world, blasting armies of floating monsters that attack in ever growing swarms. At the end of the level, there's a boss. Points per monsters killed, weapon upgrades in exchange for points, everything set to cheerful, high-energy video game music. From the perspective of the pilot - what would that be like? That's what this short story is all about.

I will release this on amazon as a paperback and eBook.

    Kind regards from Hamburg, Germany!

    Norman

Is cyberwave a genre? Haha. I'd expect something like Tron.

It's not bad. When you minimize the cover, Wipeout becomes difficult to read. I feel like it's missing something that could make it pop better. I say increase the title font as big as you can and add a vanishing point in the distance. You could potentially do that with the grid, make it look like it goes off into the distance. Here's a quick picture example of what I mean:

I took the liberty of putting your cover image in quotes, due to optimisation of page load time.

It has an '80s (almost disco) feel, or it makes me think of Daft Punk for some reason. Is that what you are trying to do?

As it is there are too many things happening that make the cover all over the place. For instance, I think there are too many font styles (4) which is very distracting, what about 2 (the ones in the title)? Or if you cut the top part (above the spaceship) it also works. Do you need the worn-out effect on the borders?

    Overall, I like it.

You are right, minimized, it is really difficult to read. I am going to make changes.

Thank you very much! I appreciate the feedback. I made the title more readable and unified the fonts a bit.

    2 new versions:
The worn-out effect on the borders should say "this is an old and used book". Maybe its too much.

I can see a strong improvement - especially in the thumbnail display.

The story is indeed set in the 80s: 2980. ;) We wanted to pick up the flair of old Amiga games, because it's all about the arcade theme.

And yes, there is also a link to the music of that time. The genre is called Retrowave. Some playlists have been created for the book to support the mood.

    All images in high resolution:

I really like worn out edges for book covers and it makes them pop from other covers online when scrolling.

I think it's great for the genre. Just my opinion. As someone else mentioned, fans of Tron will like this cover.

It has a certain 'cheesy 80s' charm, so if that's what you were going for you've captured it very well. The worn edges work well as an idea, but I think they could be done better.

However, it's that very cheesiness that would stop me taking it seriously if I saw it on a bookshelf. I would expect the tone to be cheesy, too.

I didn't vote because I'm rather irritated by these 'rate my [whatever]' type requests.

Thank you for the honest feedback! Yes, we exaggerate a little and do it on purpose.

What bothers you about the worn corners? Does it look too unrealistic?

If you like science fiction, I'll be happy to give you a free copy if that's allowed.

We are planning seven volumes and want to make it as good as possible.

Yes, the worn edges look very artificial and manufactured.

Thank you for the kind offer of a copy but I don’t really read books anymore.
