erebh - lol I think I may have heard of the same film, although I remember my friend who was telling me said it was a woman, and the film was black and white. However, the rest of the film sounds exactly the same! Somehow talking about this is reminding me of Phone Booth - most excellent dialogue if there ever was one. Every time I watch it I never cease to be amazed at just how damn well-written the dialogue is, and all the tension is in the dialogue, all the drama is in the dialogue, and even though I know the ending, it's simply mesmerising. I hope I can write like that one day. Anyway, back to the OP - bad movies that I love? Well, here's my guilty pleasure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kze5Eo39lzA Oh yeah. And Zac is HOT man. I love nearly every song from all three High School Musicals too. It's utter and complete crap and I absolutely adore it. I discovered HSM2 during my final university summer, right after a really horrible year when I had a mild breakdown and was in desperate need of some rest, the same summer when I rediscovered writing, the only thing I allowed myself to commit to that summer. Post heart-break, post-breakdown, post a whole lot of mess, and then came this film, and it made my heart glow to see the sheer cheesy romance of it all.
Legally Blonde. And for that matter, Legally Blonde: Red White and Blonde. And Burlesque. Guilty pleasures
Starship Troopers Galaxy Quest Mortal Kombat Alien vs Predator 1 Dungeons & Dragons and for the record, I hated Street Fighter so I'm not completely hopeless
The Batman movie from 1966, the one with the shark-repellent bat-spray. I have never seen anything more ridiculously lousy, and yet so brilliant.
Commando, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The mid-1980s was a era of big stupid action movies, and this one stands out as maybe the biggest and stupidest. It is gloriously over-the-top, full of preposterous scenes such as the one in which Arnold jumps from a jet plane taking off and lands like he just jumped off a stepladder. It has monumentally-dumb dialogue that is clearly intended to sound cool ("Let off some steam, Bennett!"). It has a paper-thin plot and silly villains. It's a big stupid movie, but for some reason I get a big stupid grin on my face whenever it comes on TV.
That is seriously one of my favorite one-liners ever! I wrote a Sporcle quiz for action movies a few years back, and guess what my clue for "Commando" was? You know why? Because the movie never takes itself seriously (it's practically an action comedy), and focuses on the spectacle of action and ridiculous one-liners and humor. Most modern action movies are every bit as stupid, but try to be "dark" and "gritty".
I just saw Pacific Rim, and I think it deserves a spot here... It was so dumb, but in the best possible way. I would gladly watch it again... Just for the scene where the giant robot uses a cargo ship as a baseball bat to beat in a giant alien sea monsters head... Because that happens... Nuff said
Another Con Air fan here - I watch it with the sound turned down so my neighbors don't judge me, and can't resist mumbling 'put the bunny back in the box' whenever I have the chance. Which is not often.
"Some days, you just can't get rid of a bomb." How about Damnation Alley ('This whole town is infested with killer cockroaches. I repeat: KILLER COCKROACHES!')? Supposed to be the big SF blockbuster of the year until it was upstaged by a little movie called Star Wars, yet it looks like something Roger Corman knocked together in the desert for $50,000. It's so gloriously bad, I had to buy the Blu-Ray. Hardware is an SF movie that's either brilliant or awful, and I can't quite decide which. And let's not forget Howard The Duck.
Some admittedly crap films I thoroughly enjoy include: Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone MegaForce Blood & Concrete Birdemic: Shock and Terror (Yes. Kill me.)
