    Database Error?!

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by live2write, Jan 14, 2013.

This started happening recently and I do not know if it is on my end or if it is the internet but I have getting error messages when replying to a post or creating a new post.

The browser would lock up and ask me if I want to stay or leave page. Either button I press sends me to a database error. I tried different browsers, clearing cache, trying different computers and my Iphone without wifi. It might be just on my end but just to address if it is something I should know.

This also happens when I am at work viewing the page while not logged in.

I experienced one myself today. I'm looking into it.

If anyone else is experiencing this, it would help to not the exact time you see the error, that way I can look it up in the logs. Also, the type of error would help. Is it a "MySQL server has gone away" error?

I saw it twice. Once at about 40 minutes before this post, and another about half an hour before that. It just said database connection error.

The message displayed to members is very generic. No error codes, just a general "try again later" kind of message. I'd think the server would log database errors, but I have never worked with the vBulletin software. Check the MySQL logs in case the error is something the database engine can diagnose rather than a consistency error at the application level.

It just happened to me... 8:44pm EST. The message was: The database has encountered a problem.

I had to try several times to get here where I can make this post. Hopefully it will go through.

Thanks guys. Peter, that exact time should help when going through the logs.

I'm currently talking with my hosting company and I'm confident they can help solve this issue. I'll update you guys once it's solved.

I've seen it a lot since I joined the site in the summer. I just kind of wrote it off as normal though...

It happened about 10 minutes ago, I didn't note the exact time though. Next time it happens I'll post the time here tho!

This error occasionally is unavoidable, but it should be very rare. Like 1 out of every or 50,000 pageviews, specifically when the site is the most active. The past few days it's apparently been occurring more often, plus the server load time has gone up. Regardless, I'm determined to get to the bottom of the issue. :D

I'd say about once every two or three days usually. Then It'll go a week without happening, then it'll do it every day for a little while. It usually doesn't last long, maybe a minute or two at the most. It usually isn't an issue cuz, like I said, I only lasts a minute or two then goes away. I've noticed it usually happens around 11:30 at night pretty regularly for like a minute.

Other than that, I've never had any problems with the site, and I just wrote that off as a minor inconvenience since this is a smaller site. I think that considering you're one guy, and not a professional programmer, everything runs really well in comparison to some other sites I've been on run by pros! Keep up the good work man! :D

I ran into it three times tonight. In each case, it followed an absurdly long page load.

By the way, folks, when you provide the time of an incident, don't forget to give your time zone!

"Error. Database has encountered a problem."

1012, 1014 - trying to refresh the new posts section. Closed my browser and re-opened.

1016 - typed in the address and got the same error twice.
