    Day Jobs

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by GothicSpook, Jul 9, 2017.

What are your jobs outside of writing? And how do you manage to shuffle writing whilst working.

I work as a full time Manager for a Makeup brand in London and do most of my reading and writing on the trains to and from work, and during my lunch.

Modding Stellaris and Civ IV. That's just as good as yours, don't anyone say otherwise.

Ooh, another person who lives in Herts! Welcome, Gothic. :)

I write and edit non-fiction for a day job. Work comes in peaks and troughs so when we're quiet I write fiction at work. When we're busy I write fiction in the evenings and weekends. And I get a lot done on my commute: I drive, so I can't actually write, but I do a lot of thinking and problem solving in the car.

I write software and do research across the pond. I write and read mostly on the bus to and from NYC and during my lunch if I have an idea that I want to get out.

I work with databases, it's boring as hell, but pays the bills until I become publishable- so I write at every available opportunity!!

Is there a difference between EFL professor and EFL teacher? Is it the age of the students, or... you wouldn't have a doctorate in EFL, I assume...?

    Yeah, about that....

I've got a bachelor's degree (4 year), so I'm not quite really a professor, however, when I get memos and notices from the department head, student affairs, or the planning committee, they come address to "Professor [Aschendale]," and who am I to say such august and edumacated personages are wrong?

    But yeah, busted, thanks

Yes, that's my primary job; although I've got some part-time business gigs as well.

I'm supposed to be a physical therapy tech in a clinic somewhere in Phoenix but there's been no luck yet so I'm unemployed. However, Monday I'm going in for an interview at a retirement home so I'll see how that works. I write every week from anywhere between 2-4 hours a day. I'm mostly submitting when I feel I've done enough writing for the week.

Okay, I just looked that up, because it really sounded like a fancy name for sitting around wishing for things that management was never going to give you....

Like the way I've been requesting a whiteboard eraser at one of my jobs for something like four months.....

Retired electrical engineer. I did a lot of work for the entertainment industry (I left my footprints all over Tokyo DisneySea, SeaWorld Orlando, etc.) and I also did some industrial controls (I worked for aluminum foundries in SoCal and Georgia).

Well that depends on whether I get an installation job sooner than a re-stretch. ;)
