    Describing Louis XIV interior

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by Clementine_Danger, Oct 4, 2017.

... without using the term "Louis XIV"

To be clear, I'm talking about the interior design style. I'm trying to describe a number of rooms in this style, but I seem to be falling a little short. It's a fantasy setting, so using the actual term is out of the question. What words or phrases would you use to evoke this sort of opulence? It needs to be quick, because the pacing demands I don't spend too much time describing the interior, so I need some key words that describe the style.

"an opulent, gilded style reminiscent of a distant King of another land."

    (edited for misspelling!)

The ceilings vaulted heavenward, but not to any god MC knew. Enameled walls and gilded edges. It was an enormous bird's nest of filigrees.
