    Sound effects

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by Malkhalifa, Mar 9, 2013.

    Hi guys,

I was wondering if there was a source where I can learn more words that describe sounds. I find myself stuck trying to figure out what sound is made when you hear the coil spring in a mattress or cheap couch.

    Thanks

Don't know of any web sites or anything but "squeaked" and "creaked" come to mind. Perhaps even "groaned" (as if in agony from the weight being put on it). :D

Do you read Terry Pratchett (if not, why not?) There is a wonderful bit in A Hat Full Of Sky, where the main character rolls around on her old mattress and plays "The Bells of St Ungulants" on the bedsprings. Magic.
