Do you care about your legacy? At the risk of sounding like a total narcissist,...……… yes I am. But that could change as I enter my elderly years. Paper had some nice qualities but because of his severe self-loathing and misanthropy, we hardly ever saw them. Paper suffered from being hyper self-c0nscious. Paper spent too much time in reflective mode. Paper never really rose above his own sarcastic cowardice. He was a nicer guy when he was young. He got into the wrong career. He needed to see a counsellor much earlier in his life. He was a fake Christian. A bad commercial for the brand. Classic example of what happens to people who embrace narcissism. He never quite made use of the little talent he had. He had some talent but lacked the focus and determination to succeed. He was a loser. He never loved us so how could he expect us to love him?
No, not really. History is deeply, deeply traitorous to even the most important and elevated of people. People who contributed greatly are regularly erased, expunged, shoved to the back of a metaphorical junk drawer whenever something about them is inconvenient to the mindsets of the time. Knowing that, why would I worry? Why would history treat me any differently?
and yet many people do worry about their legacy. Sometimes I think it is an illusion. A trick into changing our behaviour to please others before we die. "better start loving others so they'll say what a loving guy I was"
Nah. Well, I guess I wouldn't want my legacy to cause harm to the people I care about who are still alive... but really, I don't think I'm in any way notorious enough for that to be an issue!
Yes, especially if it's my future children. I want to raise them well and to be loved by them. If I fail, then it's a punishment I must bear. If I succeed, I don't care what anyone else says--except people I respect, love, admire etc. lol so I actually do care a bit! But not for complete strangers.
What can I say? Feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, treat the miserable. It's the 21st Century, they are still our legacy from centuries past. Will they be 'our' legacy?
Yes. It's an impossible "legacy" to solve so long as one person chooses not to eat, chooses not to be sheltered, and refuses to be treated. And that one person isn't hypothetical: we call then Franciscan Monks, although they don't kill themselves.
Thou knowest of which I speak. An would I sit upon high ground, tho, being brought low in my own arrogance, yet the legacy remains, as do I.
I will guess King Lear since it reminds me of when the King loses everything and is with a former ducal heir who is repentant. I think.
I don't care what they say as long as they're talking about me. I just don't want to be forgotten history. That's what's scary, in my opinion.
Lo, there do I walk, a parody of myself. 'Shake-a-spear'? Is that a tribal ritual? I hearda a guy that wrote wierd back in the day. People though it was english, or maybe he thought it was english. I get all of that from a story about a kid who gets thrown back in time and tries to blend in with the language. Seriously, if I want to leave a lasting impression on someone, I'll just sit on them.
Nah, not particularly. I don't expect to leave much of a legacy and don't really care to. Just want to live my life and have a little fun along the way.
