There is a book that l want to reread but l can't remember the title or the author. It was assigned reading for a high school English class (so about 16-18 years ago). Here's what l can remember of the story: it was set in the future after some kind of apocalyptic event, anyone born with a mutation was killed (main character had fused toes but had survived because his/her feet were always covered), main character(s) discover that he/she/they have telepathic powers and can communicate with people in another community; they try to find this community before the people in their community discover they are telepaths and kill them. If no one recognizes this book, are there any other ways l can find out the title/author?
